Goodman Masson are currently working with a social housing organisation in Surrey to recruit for an interim Surveyor. Pay Rate: £350 - £450 a day Umbrella

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Building Surveyor to join a busy local authority property team. Working within a close-knit team and reporting directly to the Building Services & Facilities Manager, you'll play a key role in delivering a varied portfolio of building projects, compliance activities and planned maintenance across the council's operational and residential estate.

This is an excellent opportunity for a surveyor who enjoys variety. No two days are the same, with responsibilities ranging from fire safety and compliance, planned capital works and contract management through to condition surveys, repairs, complaints and project delivery.

The Role

You'll provide professional surveying expertise across a diverse portfolio of council-owned buildings, ensuring assets are safe, compliant and well maintained. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external contractors, you'll oversee projects from inception through to completion while ensuring quality, compliance and value for money.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering building surveying services across the council's operational and residential property portfolio.
  • Managing a range of planned maintenance and capital works projects, including roof replacement programmes and refurbishment schemes.
  • Supporting the delivery of a civil engineering project involving riverbank sheet piling, ensuring works are delivered safely and in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Undertaking property inspections, condition surveys and defect diagnosis.
  • Investigating building defects including damp and moisture ingress, providing recommendations and overseeing remedial works.
  • Assessing properties for potential refurbishment into temporary accommodation, supporting the development of business cases through to project completion.
  • Managing contractors, consultants and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Producing technical specifications using NBS Chorus and preparing contract documentation using JCT and NEC forms of contract.
  • Monitoring contractor performance, undertaking site inspections and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Supporting fire safety compliance across the council's property portfolio.
  • Assisting with mechanical and electrical compliance programmes and supporting the management of specialist service contracts.
  • Responding to day-to-day repairs, technical queries, complaints and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
  • Maintaining accurate project records, compliance documentation and reporting information.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
