Building Surveyor

Building Surveyor - Nottingham

About The Role

Gateley Smithers Purslow are recruiting a full-time Building Surveyor to join our growing team based in Nottingham, with primary work covering the Midlands and surrounding areas.

This is an exciting, varied role supporting the Surveying team on a wide range of projects, including:

  • Insurance work
  • Residential and commercial buildings (all construction types)

The Building Surveyor will report to their Line Manager, handling projects independently, providing guidance to supporting team members and ensuring seamless delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and advise on:
    • Building design, construction, maintenance, repair & refurbishment
    • Acquisition surveys, condition reports, measured surveys & defect investigations
  • Compile reports, schedules of work & works specifications
  • Design and oversee construction using established building contracts and up-to-date technical standards
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, including:
    • Health & safety
    • Party Wall Act
    • Building Regulations
    • Planning legislation
  • Secure new projects by promoting company services
  • Follow Gateley Smithers Purslow’s administrative, personnel & QHSE policy compliance

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Consulting engineering
    • Surveying
    • Architectural & planning practices
  • Proficiency in defect diagnosis & reporting
  • Insurance repair project experience (preferred)
  • Experience in:
    • Working to tight deadlines
    • Handling large scale projects within budgets
  • Legal & regulatory awareness and skill in:
    • CDM Regulations 2015
    • Party Wall Act
    • Building Regulations (current standards)
  • Strong mathematical/IT problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding verbal & written communication

Preferable

  • Recognised Building Surveying Certification (e.g Charity, MRICS)
  • Flexibility to adapt to differing work types
