Role Overview
Are you a commercially aware, chartered Building Surveyor with consultancy-side experience and leadership skills, looking for an exceptional growth opportunity within a successful, passionate and market-leading team?
If so, we are looking for an ambitious and driven Associate Building Surveyor or Partner to join our Commercial Building Surveying/Building Consultancy team in Milton Keynes at Bidwells. We provide specialist strategic advice and support to property owners, occupiers, developers and investors from acquisition to project management, combining the skills of Building Surveyors, Architects, Construction Consultants, Engineers and Project Managers with extensive local knowledge.
This Associate Building Surveyor or Partner will join at an exciting time and be instrumental in the growth and development of the highly-regarded team and division, identifying and pursuing new business opportunities across the region and supporting the existing team lead in providing management and mentoring support to the Commercial Building Surveying Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic, technical and professional advice to clients.
- Work on a range of instructions mainly within the Commercial and Industrial sectors, including building surveys, PPM inspections, acquisition surveys, refurbishments, dilapidations, party wall surveys, schedules of condition, due diligence etc.
- Prepare specifications and contract tenders liaising with the relevant parties.
- Prepare budget costs and supervise contractors.
- Contract administration.
- Project management.
- Regularly communicate with the client, agreeing variations and delivering projects on time, within budget.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with existing and new clients as well as intermediaries, identifying and managing their needs and expectations.
- Actively identify new business and project opportunities both from the external market and from internal opportunities and implement business winning strategies with the aim of securing new instructions. Drive forward actions to target new prospects and pitch/tender for new business.
- Network, build internal relationships and understand all other services to ensure cross-selling of work. Share client intelligence.
- Develop and maintain local and regional construction marketplace knowledge.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all legislation and relevant standards affecting building surveying and share knowledge and information where appropriate.
- Coach/mentor, develop and support the Commercial Building Surveying team.
- Maintain the CRM system.

About You
- A relevant or RICS accredited qualification in Building Surveying or equivalent
- MRICS qualified would be preferable
- Significant proven experience and knowledge of commercial and/or industrial building surveying, preferably with some experience within a similar professional services/consultancy firm
- Ability to generate new business, with good networking and negotiation skills
- Organised, good attention to detail, able to prioritise workload
- Strong relationship building and management skills
- An adaptable team player who is also able to work independently
- Experience of people management/mentoring would be an advantage
- Strong IT skills, specifically in Microsoft Office
- CSCS card holder and CAD skills would be desirable but not essential
