The Department

Risk and Compliance work in collaboration with the business to ensure best practice across the Firm, effectively managing all aspects of the regulation surrounding the efficient running of the Firm. We are looking for someone with high attention to detail who prides themselves on providing excellent service.

The role will involve working with key internal stakeholders in a fast-paced environment, so managing your time and the expectations of others is paramount. You will be joining a hardworking and fun team, who work together to provide a high level of service to the Firm and its clients.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Managing the performance of the business acceptance function against the Firm's new business acceptance policies, practices and controls.
  • Working closely with the Conflicts and Financial Crime teams to meet the evolving requirements of the Firm and consistently achieve agreed service levels.
  • Overall responsibility for resourcing and work allocation in the business acceptance team to ensure a timely delivery of service is being provided to the Firm. Where necessary directly allocate work to team members based on capacity and developmental needs.
  • Collaborating across the firm's Risk & Compliance and Business Operations functions to drive operational innovation and improvement to new business acceptance processes and procedures.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to fee earners and Business Operations on operational processes and new business intake processes.
  • Where necessary, acting as a point of escalation within the team on new business intake requests and issues.
  • Acting as a key stakeholder in the continuous improvement and management of Intapp - working with a key group of experts across the Firm to ensure the system remains as effective and efficient as possible.
  • To work in close collaboration with the People team to maintain rigorous lateral recruitment processes across the MDR Group.
  • To work in partnership with subject matter experts across the Risk & Compliance Department and our Academy to ensure effective training is delivered within the business acceptance teams and to support the learning of the wider firm.

Skills/Experience

  • Substantial prior experience in new business intake, including financial crime and conflicts experience, in a law firm compliance function is essential.
  • Significant experience with Intapp is required. It will be helpful to have experience in new business intake design projects.
  • A legal qualification is not required; however significant law firm compliance experience is necessary.
  • Strong people management skills with proven experience in successfully building and managing a high performing compliance team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to present themselves in a commercial and confident manner to a range of stakeholders.
  • The highest standards of legal rigour, delivered with care in a professional and pleasant manner.
  • A diligent and effective record keeper.
  • Strong team player - this role is highly collaborative and requires someone who enjoys working alongside colleagues and takes a supportive and agile approach.
  • Strong organisational and prioritising skills, to meet the demands of challenging and commercial internal clients, as well as dealing with competing priorities.
  • Efficient and responsive with an ability to challenge and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage own diverse workload and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proactive, resilient and calm under pressure.
  • Takes responsibility for and attends to self-development.
  • Flexible and agile approach to the workload, with the ability to work in close collaboration with the General Counsel Team and other members of the Department.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
