Description

The candidate will support the negotiations for writers, producers, cast, production companies, and other related deals and will work closely with Studio legal affairs to assist in finalizing agreements and dealing with production issues as they arise. The candidate will leverage their negotiation ability while interacting with agents, managers, and outside attorneys and be able to efficiently communicate status and tradeoffs with other members of the Amazon MGM Studios team including Creative, Production, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, and Legal, as well as executives outside of Amazon MGM Studios.

Key job responsibilities

  • Applying working knowledge of film and television industry agreements, guild regulations, contract law, and intellectual property rights (as applicable to the entertainment industry) to support drafting, negotiating, communicating (written and verbal) with our external partners.
  • Negotiating deal terms for production companies, IP, and above-the-line talent to achieve business objectives and support wider Amazon goals.
  • Communicating across teams including Creative, Production, Marketing, Finance, Legal, and external stakeholders.
  • Managing high-volume workloads across a global organization and multiple time zones efficiently.
  • Advising senior-level executives and building strong relationships through clear risk analysis and cross-departmental collaboration.

A day in the life

  • The candidate will negotiate and/or manage negotiations of commercial deal terms with and for production companies, producers, IP rights, format rights, ATL incl. writers, directors, on-screen talent, and other related deals.
  • The candidate will interact with managers, agents, managing directors, and outside attorneys and will efficiently communicate status and tradeoffs with other members of the Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video team including Creative, Production, Marketing, Finance, Tax, Accounting, Legal, and Distribution, as well as executives outside of Amazon.
  • The candidate will apply a comprehensive working knowledge of film and TV industry business models, development, and production methodologies. The candidate will also demonstrate the ability to think abstractly, adapt quickly in ambiguous or unstructured environments, and effectively navigate new or unfamiliar situations and problems without predefined guidance.
  • The candidate will manage a varied, high-volume workload efficiently and smoothly, operate within corporate parameters, and remain cool and levelheaded in high-pressure situations. The candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues in this department and across Amazon, build strong internal client relationships, effectively advise senior-level executives under time-sensitive conditions, and generate client satisfaction through clear thinking and risk analysis.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience working with and influencing senior-level stakeholders
  • Experience in the entertainment industry
  • UK qualified solicitor with a minimum of 3 years PQE.
  • Significant experience in the entertainment sector, representing or working for a media law firm, film or TV production company, studio, or network.
  • Experience with complex commercial agreements (underlying rights, work-for-hire productions, co-productions, licenses, distribution) and talent agreements (authors, writers, directors, actors, producers).
  • A deep understanding of the UK film and television industry including a comprehensive knowledge of UK deal structures and talent representatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of UK guild structures and requirements.
  • Experience in streaming deal making.
  • Deep interest in technology and innovation with a particular focus in AI
  • Experience in international markets
