Reporting to: Head of Innovation, Analytics & Innovation
Position Type: Permanent, 35 hours per week | Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days working from home)

Job Purpose
We are building a market-leading, AI-enabled specialty insurer. As Business AI Lead, you will:
- Design and run AI experiments to explore emerging tools’ potential in underwriting, claims, and operations.
- Prototype solutions by directly interfacing with AI tools and collaborating cross-functionally.
- Translate promising ideas into practical capabilities, while recognising when to pivot or stop unproductive work.
This hands-on role reports to the Head of Innovation, Analytics & Innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Experimentation & Prototyping (Core Focus)
- Identify practical use cases where AI can enhance decision-making or operational efficiency.
- Design and execute structured AI experiments to test hypotheses and validate expected outcomes.
- Build working prototypes using modern AI frameworks (e.g., LLMs, retrieval workflows, structured outputs, agent patterns).
- Assess output quality, reliability, and business value.
- Rapidly iterate based on user feedback to refine solutions.

Hands-on AI Application
- Work directly with AI platforms and tooling to assess capabilities.
- Apply techniques such as embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt design, and tool integration.
- Research emerging AI tools, evaluating their enterprise applicability.
- Develop lightweight performance benchmarking methods to compare tool suitability.
Business Collaboration
- Partner with underwriters, claims teams, and operational staff to understand real-world problems.
- Test prototypes in live or near-live environments and incorporate feedback.
- Educate users on AI limitations, risks, and ethical usage.
Responsible & Secure AI Deployment
- Ensure all experiments comply with data security and governance policies.
- Document assumptions, constraints, and control mechanisms.
- Design solutions that are explicable, transparent, and auditable where required.
Skills & Experience Specification
Technical Proficiency
- Hands-on experience building applications with LLM-based tools (e.g., prompt engineering, fine-tuning).
- Practical understanding of retrieval-augmented workflows, structured outputs, and agent-style systems.
- Strong prototyping skills (preferably in Python or similar relevant language).
- Ability to cross-line AI platforms and adapt quickly to new toolsets.
