Business Analyst at Rail Delivery Group

An opportunity has arisen for a Business Analyst at Rail Delivery Group.

You will work with our programme and project managers to identify and define the business analysis elements of a programme of work, assisting the project/delivery manager in planning and delivering these activities. Whilst you will work across the business, your initial focus will be focused on Digital Ticketing Services. You will use your business understanding, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills to support the Rail Delivery Group implement solutions in a cost-effective way.

To ensure success as a Business Analyst, you should demonstrate experience and creativity in business analysis, system development and application design, combining IT expertise with in-depth business knowledge.

You will need to have excellent stakeholder management skills with some experience of working in a complex stakeholder environment with multiple external organisations.

You will also form part of the newly established RDG Business Analysis Practice, setting BA standards and processes, sharing best practice and working collaboratively to ensure consistent, high-quality business analysis deliverables.

What can I expect to do in this job?

This isn't an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include:

  • Understanding and clearly defining the scope of change and procurement initiatives
  • Working with customer, technical and other teams as required to understand detailed wants and needs, identifying and articulating solution options, rules, benefits and risks
  • Elaborating high level requirements from internal and external stakeholders into detailed functional and non-functional requirements that can be used in procurement documentation
  • Presenting analysis findings and requirements to internal and external stakeholders
  • Undertaking data analysis and investigation in support of developing deliverables
  • Managing the prioritisation of requirements
  • Coordinating and inputting into the evaluation of suppliers' proposals and their capability to meet the requirements, either from existing solutions or from new developments
  • Reviewing technical designs to ensure the proposed solution meets requirements and rail industry standards
  • Defining acceptance criteria, ensuring that the supplier builds to specification and achieves both those criteria and the project's goals
  • Supporting the delivery of training to internal and external users and creation of training materials
  • Measuring and reporting on benefits delivery
  • Providing input into future development roadmaps
  • Contributing to and ensuring that all business analysis deliverables align with the BA Practice community and standards

Requirements

What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?

  • Minimum of 3 years working as a business analyst or in a closely related area in a professional environment
  • Requirements gathering and documentation
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience and knowledge of analysis activities across the full project development lifecycle
  • Experience of documenting requirements using use cases, user stories and other techniques
  • Ability to break down complex analysis problems into concise requirements and business rules
  • Experience of working with in complex stakeholder environments, engaging with multiple parties to elicit requirements and undertake analysis
  • Ability to extract requirements from technical documentation
  • Understanding and definition of current and target operating models
  • System and business process modelling and re-engineering
  • Collaboration and facilitation skills to work effectively with a broad range of both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of running workshops and posing the right questions to gather requirements and challenge design details and assumptions
  • Attention to detail, enabling issues to be identified, coupled with thoroughness and a determination to resolve them
  • Ability to produce excellent quality written documentation to support your work, report on findings and present to stakeholders when required
  • Proactive and delivery focussed
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to balance customer, project, and development needs for a particular project delivery, escalating any conflict at appropriate times
  • Exposure to and understanding of agile and traditional project management frameworks
  • Data analysis skills to investigate issues and identify impacts (Excel/SQL) is beneficial
  • Experience of modelling tools such as Visio is desirable
  • Professional business analysis certifications (IIBA, BCS etc) are welcomed
  • Experience of procurement processes and deliverables (e.g. RFI, RFP) is helpful
  • Rail industry experience and knowledge of rail industry standards is beneficial
