Business Analyst - Data
Business Data Analyst – SmartSearch
About the Role
SmartSearch’s Anti-Money Laundering verification software offers the most advanced and comprehensive features in AML protection. We’ve built a collaborative and supportive culture that drives rapid growth, innovation, and a great workplace. As we expand, we’re seeking a Business Data Analyst to shape data initiatives through business analysis, stakeholder engagement, and requirements definition, reporting to the Interim Director of Data and BI.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Requirements
- Lead requirements elicitation to identify business needs, challenges, and opportunities across data and analytics projects.
- Document clear business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting artefacts to enable delivery.
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops and interviews to gather insights, align priorities, and refine requirements.
- Create process maps and analyse current/future-state workflows to drive process improvements.
- Work closely with technical teams to ensure requirements translate into actionable, deliverable data solutions.
Data & Stakeholder Support
- Use intermediate SQL skills to support data analysis, validate requirements, and troubleshoot issues.
- Leverage Power BI (consumer-level expertise) to review reports, interpret outputs, and assist business users.
- Apply data modelling concepts to inform technical discussions and shape effective analytics solutions.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships to ensure data and reporting solutions meet organisational needs.
- Support testing, validation, and continuous improvement to confirm solutions deliver measurable value.
- Collaborate in Agile delivery, contributing to sprint planning, backlog refining, and cross-functional team success.

Requirements & Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
- 5–8 years’ experience in business analysis, with a strong focus on data/w analytical projects.
- Proven expertise in:
- Requirements elicitation & user story development
- Stakeholder workshops and process mapping
- Intermediate SQL (querying, validation, analysis)
- Consumer-level Power BI (report exploration and business support)
- Data modelling concepts (relationships, structures, analytics alignment)
- Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements while bridging gaps between stakeholders and teams.
Desirable Qualifications
- Certifications (e.g., BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis, IIBA CBAP/CCBA, Agile/Scrum, PL-300).
- Agile/Scrum experience in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and iterative delivery.
