Business Analyst – Operational Change Team

Location: Manchester Industry: Financial Services


About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Business Analyst to join AJ Bell’s Operational Change team. This role will leverage your expertise to support our growth targets and cost efficiency initiatives, providing leadership in business analysis to propel your career in a dynamic London-based environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to investigate, model, and refine business functions, processes, information flows, and data structures.
  • Gather, analyse, and validate business requirements, translating needs into actionable specifications.
  • Develop high-quality business analysis deliverables (e.g., process maps, requirements documents) following organisational standards and using appropriate tools and methodologies.
  • Create detailed functional specifications for new or enhanced systems, ensuring technical accuracy and business alignment.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings and workshops, capturing insights and presenting findings—both in verbal and written reports.
  • Assist in defining User Acceptance Testing (UAT) criteria for new systems, ensuring functional precision.
  • Conduct process analysis (gap, impact, and risk assessments) to identify misalignments, advocate for optimisations, and drive efficiency gains.
  • Support internal development teams and external suppliers in implementing system/process changes, acting as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify inefficiencies in systems/processes—from documentation to workflows—highlighting opportunities for cost savings or enhanced performance to senior leadership.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Criteria

  • 3–5 years’ experience (minimum) as a Business Analyst in a professional services or financial/retail setting.
  • Recognition or near-completion of a professional Business Analysis certification (e.g., BCS BA, IIBA ACE™, Agile BA accreditation).
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to distil complexity into clear solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience in Agile processes (Scrum/Kanban) and collaborating across cross-functional teams.
  • Meticulous attention to detail—processes, data integrity, regulatory adherence, and risk factors should be viewed holistically.
  • Deep knowledge of industry-specific standards (e.g., FCA compliance, GDPR) and regulatory frameworks applicable to financial services.
  • Confidence in working independently with clear briefs while also leveraging team input for convergence and consensus.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in Lean/Six Sigma methodologies and real-world experience applying them to process re-engineering.
  • Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) or systems analysis tools like Visio or Lucidchart.
  • Exposure to ERP/data governance architectures in finance/insurance.
  • Stakeholder management in high-pressure environments, balancing technical clarity with business needs.
