We are seeking a Business Architect & Organisation Design Lead (Associate Director) within AECOM Advisory to:
- Lead complex client engagements in strategy execution (operating model, transformation, governance)
- Expand AECOM’s Strategy+ offer—a cutting-edge consulting arm focused on turning strategy into actionable change
- Drive operational excellence across Energy, Water, Defence, and other critical sectors
This role sits at the Manager-equivalent level in advisory consulting, balancing:
- Hands-on problem-solving
- Senior stakeholder management
- Team leadership
- Strategic business development
About Strategy+
Strategy+ specialises in systemic challenges, delivering practical change through: ✔ Operating model design (capability alignment, process redesign) ✔ Governance frameworks (transparency, accountability) ✔ Sustainable transformation (agile adaptation to regulatory/economic shifts) ✔ Performance improvement (people, processes, tech, data)

Key Responsibilities

Engagement Leadership
- Own full-cycle delivery of Strategy+ projects—from scoping to final recommendations
- Ensure high standards in outputs, stakeholder alignment, and sharp project discipline
- Correct course early if risks emerge (scope, commercial, operational)

Methodology & Toolkit
- Apply scalable, replicable frameworks for organisation design, transformation, and performance
- Develop domain-specific playbooks (e.g., defence, industry operations)

Stakeholder Insight
- Build trusted advisor relationships with executive leadership
- Translate complex analysis into clear, executive-ready narratives (dashboards, roadmaps, visual insights)
- Workshops: Lead cross-functional collaboration on priorities/trade-offs

Forward-Thinking Leadership

- Assemble multi-disciplinary teams to address complex issues (ex: combining procurement analytics with org design)
- Act as internal client liaison to connect teams with niche AECOM expertise

- Spot follow-on opportunities in meetings/retrospectives
- Contribute to winning proposals in target sectors (defence being a priority)
- Expand AECOM’s agenda-setting positions in risk-aware industries

Commercial & Delivery Oversight
- Monitor quality, risk, commercials, and timelines
- Escalate and resolve blockers before they derail projects

Capability Growth
- Train and mentor consultants on structuring, analysis, and client-facing delivery
- Optimise team assignments to align with project needs and AECOM’s strategic goals
What We’d Like to See
Experience & Skills
You’re the strategy-to-results architect—where theory meets action. Proven strengths include:
✔ Specialist Advisory Background
- Proven track record in management consulting, transformation, or organisational strategy
- Experience in defence, regulated industries (e.g., utilities, telecom), or infrastructure (preferred)
- Familiarity with change management methodologies (e.g., Kotter, ADKAR) and lean processes
✔ Problem-Solving with Flair
- Diplomacy under pressure: Ambigious client engagements, diverse stakeholder groups, and evolving requirements
- Storytelling: Turning dense data into compelling drive-for-change narratives
- Practical focus: Design operational outcomes—not just theoretical frameworks
✔ Stakeholder & Project Diplomacy
- Leadership ability with CEO/board-level executives (ability to challenge constructively)
- Hands-on experience in client environments (secondment evidence ideal)
- Relationship-building to eclipse competitive offers
✔ Scalability & Sustainability
- Built repeatable operating models for diverse sectors
- Embedded processes that last beyond the project (ownership mindset)
✔ Delivery Discipline
- Time management: Juggling deadlines without sacrificing quality

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, economics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Postgraduate certification or professional accreditation (e.g., MCIPP, PMP, BCM) (advantageous)
Certifications/Additional Assets
- Defence/organisational transformation expertise (planning with MSP/PPM tools)
- Performance improvement frameworks (e.g., Balanced Scorecard, LEAN Six Sigma)
