We are seeking a Business Architect & Org Design Lead (Associate Director level) to lead complex client engagements and help grow AECOM’s Strategy+ Advisory offer. This senior consulting delivery role is broadly equivalent to Manager level in a management consultancy.

You will work with infrastructure, public sector, and regulated-industry clients to translate strategy into execution through operating model design, transformation, governance, organisation, and performance improvement. This role combines hands-on problem-solving, senior stakeholder management, team leadership, and targeted business development.

Key Responsibilities

Core Delivery & Leadership

  • Lead complex consulting engagements or major workstreams, ensuring high-quality outputs, strong project discipline, and clear team accountability.
  • Design and apply creible, efficient, and scalable methodologies to solve client problems in:
    • Operating model development
    • Organisation design
    • Goverance
    • Service transformation
    • Business change
    • Performance improvement
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, manage expectations confidently, and act as a strong day-to-day advisor.
  • Translate complex analysis into concise, decision-ready recommendations, roadmaps, and executive-level materials.
  • Facilitate workshops and steer cross-functional discussions to align stakeholders on priorities, trade-offs, and implementation choices.
  • Bring a forward-looking perspective through horizon scanning, market awareness, and insights into emerging client challenges.

Team & Commercial Management

  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, connecting clients with the right AECOM specialists to create joined-up solutions.
  • Manage scope, risk, quality, and commercial performance, intervening early at the sign of delivery issues.
  • Lead business development by:
    • Identifying follow-on opportunities
    • Contributing to proposals
    • Strengthening relationships in target sectors (global clients, energy, water, defence).

Consultant Development

  • Coach consultants and senior consultants on structuring, analysis, storytelling, and client delivery.
  • Optimise team set-up and role allocation, ensuring capability aligns with client needs, team development, and business priorities.

Requirements & Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

✅ Strategic experience in:

  • Management consulting, advisory, transformation, or in-house strategy/operational roles.
  • Leading teams on complex, ambiguous problems with delivery to demanding timelines.

✅ Strong communication & influencing skills:

  • Articulate technical complexity simply for executives.
  • Influence senior stakeholders and challenge assumptions constructively.
  • Maintain effective stakeholder engagement while managing multiple priorities.

✅ Methodological excellence & pragmatism:

  • Proven ability to develop target operating models, capability maps, governance structures, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Operate within client environments rather than relying purely on theoretical frameworks.
  • Drive long-term performance improvement through systematic, scalable processes.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience).
  • Postgraduate qualification or relevant professional certification is advantageous.
