We’re seeking a Business Architect & Org Design Lead (Associate Director level) to lead complex client engagements and help grow Strategy+ in AECOM Advisory. This is a senior consulting role, broadly equivalent to Manager level in a management consultancy.
You will work with infrastructure, public sector, and regulated-industry clients to translate strategy into execution through:
- Operating model design
- Transformation
- Governance
- Organisation and performance improvement
The role blends consultative leadership, strategic delivery, stakeholder management, and business development.

Job Description

What You’ll Do:
- Lead complex engagements: Scaffold workstreams from scoping to delivery, ensuring high-quality outputs, strong project discipline, and clear team accountability.
- Apply credible methodologies: Design and deploy efficient and scalable frameworks for operating models, organisation design, governance, service transformation, business change, and performance improvement.
- Build trusted relationships: Act as a day-to-day advisor to senior clients, manage expectations confidently while fostering mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Translate complexity: Turn intricate analysis into concise, decision-ready recommendations, roadmaps, and executive briefings.
- Facilitate alignment: Lead workshops and cross-functional discussions to align stakeholders on priorities, trade-offs, and implementation choices.
- Horizon scanning: Bring a forward-looking perspective to challenges, integrating market awareness and insight into emerging needs.
- Co-manage multi-disciplinary teams: Curate collaborations across AECOM’s specialists to tackle complex client challenges.
- Manage scope, risk, quality, and performance: Intervene proactively when challenges arise, ensuring commercially viable delivery.
- Driver innovation with growth: Expand the Strategy+ portfolio by identifying follow-on opportunities, contributing to bids, and deepening key-sector relationships.
- Coach consultants: Mentor teams on analysis technique, storytelling, and client-facing communication.
- Shape team setup: Allocate resources to maximize capability, team development, and business objectives.

Potential Requirements
- Proven track record in management consulting, advisory, transformation, or internal strategy/operational improvement.
- Ability to lead difficult, ambiguous problems with speed, creativity, and clarity under pressing deadlines.
- Strong executive communication: Simplify complexity and present robust, actionable narratives backed by data.
- Management experience in high-stakes environments, including stakeholder influence and decision-making facilitation.
- Sharp commercial acumen, including work scoping, risk mitigation, client-relationship growth, and proposal contributions.
- Practical experience developing:
- Target operating models
- Capability maps
- Governance structures
- Implementation roadmaps
- A hands-on problem-solver, not just a theorist—versed in client environments and delivering tangible, scaled outcomes.
- System builder: Proven ability to embed structured ways of working that enhance efficiency, consistency, and long-term capabilities.
- Dynamic, goal-oriented, and resilient. Thrives in high-pressure, adaptive environments.
- High credibility with stakeholders; can challenge constructively, earn trust, and collaborate across teams.
- Relationship architect: Leverage networks to connect ideas, foster collaboration, and achieve collective success.
Qualifications & Attributes
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience.
- Preferred: Postgraduate qualifications or relevant professional certifications (recommendations include: PMP, Agile certification, APC, or business architecture certifications).
