Business Architect – Sales and Trading

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a large international bank based in London as a Business Architect – Sales and Trading, working within the Business Design team. You will lead the design of a comprehensive Target State Business Architecture (including capability map, operating model, value streams, and business services model) for the EMEA region.

This role requires collaboration with multiple departments and functions across EMEA and other regions, orchestrating alignment and facilitating strategic refinement to support the target state design.

Key Focus Areas

  • Sales and Trading Transformation – A primary emphasis on modernising and optimising business capabilities in the Sales and Trading and Capital Markets space, with strong interactions with the Front Office.
  • Strategic Alignment – Ensuring the target state design reflects broader EMEA business strategy while enabling operational excellence.
  • Holistic Design – Working closely with Technology, Data, Compliance, and Risk teams to develop a seamless, integrated target state architecture.
  • Process Optimisation – Analysing and redesigning business processes to enhance efficiency and meet financial services sector strategic objectives.
  • Requirements Elicitation – Proficiently gathering and translating business requirements into actionable design frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Design the Target State Business Architecture for EMEA, ensuring alignment with macro business strategy.
  • Collaborate internally and externally (including multi-region and multi-function teams) to define a unified operating model and value streams.
  • Assist departments and functions in clarifying business strategy to inform the target state architecture.
  • Develop and continuously update the Current State Business Architecture to support the target state design.
  • Create and maintain a detailed Implementation Roadmap for the Target State Business Architecture.
  • Align business strategies with operational processes and technology frameworks.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration to overcome conflicting priorities and drive consistent execution.

Key Qualifications and Experience

Technical & Domain Expertise

  • Business Architecture & Transformation: Proven experience in designing multi-layer, multi-entity business architectures in large, complex organisations (especially wholesale/universal banks).
  • Sales & Trading/Capital Markets Knowledge: Deep understanding of transformation initiatives in these areas, with a focus on Front Office integration.
  • Business Analysis Skills: Experience gathering requirements, modelling processes, and structuring designs to support delivery teams.

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to interpret strategy, influence decision-making, and design target state transformations aligned with business goals.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong track record of senior stakeholder engagement, resolving conflicts, and navigating ambiguity to achieve agreement.
  • Influence & Collaboration: Skilled at mobilising teams across different structures (beyond direct reporting lines) to execute complex change programmes.

Communication & Industry Awareness

  • Stakeholder Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues for diverse audiences.
  • Industry Expertise: Profound knowledge of best practices in financial services, leveraging it to enhance the bank’s operational maturity.
