Business Consultant – Retail/FMCG


Role Type: Hybrid (1-2 days on-site) Location: London Salary: £40-65k (depending on level/experience) + bonus schemes

About the Role

A Business Consultant at Aria will collaborate closely with senior retail/FMCG stakeholders, crafting strategies, designing systems, and harnessing AI to unlock value for clients. Ideal candidates (from either industry or consulting backgrounds) must thrive on complex challenges, translate data-driven insights into action, and blend strategy with execution.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing innovative, actionable solutions for retail challenges across:

    • Planning
    • Pricing
    • Analytics
    • Digital transformation
  • Delivering high-impact client deliverables focused on sustainable growth.

  • Leading workshops, mapping existing state ("as-is") and target-state ("to-be") requirements.

  • Reviewing business capabilities to design processes, organisational structures, and technology frameworks.

  • Crafting strategic reports, presentations, and insights from research, workshops, and stakeholder input.

  • Presenting key findings to executives, project leadership, and external clients.

  • Leading end-to-end system implementations/digital projects, from solution design to collaboration with data and technology teams.

  • Building strong, client-centric relationships with C-suite leadership and business stakeholders.

  • Conducting industry/customer analysis, market benchmarking, and strategic solutions.

  • Contributing to Aria’s innovative product roadmap with data-driven insights.

  • Assisting in prospective client proposals and pre-sales outreach.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design & delivery: Engineer tailored solutions for retail-specific challenges through AI, analytics, and transformative strategies.
  • Client engagement: Work directly with senior roles to align stakeholder needs with transformative outcomes.
  • Requirements & roadmaps: Encapsulate business needs and identify roadmap improvements.
  • Technical & process alignment: Ensure digital transformation and system implementation align with business goals.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Bridge gaps between data, analytics, and operational teams.
  • Data-driven storytelling: Clearly articulate complex insights to address challenges.
  • Leadership & mentorship: Guide internal/external teams with empathy and adaptability.
  • Agile thinking: Master the challenges of merchandising, pricing, product design, and global tomorrow channel execution.

Skills & Experience

Required

  • 5-8 years of experience in:
    • Retail merchandising, business transformation, or analytics.
    • General consulting with demonstrable results.
  • Structured problem-solving: Visit, synthesis, and logical analysis of complex challenges.
  • Data proficiency: Comfort with large datasets, central analytics, and evidence-based reasoning.
  • Organisational agility: Prioritisation mastery with attention to detail under tight deadlines.
  • Stakeholder management: High interpersonal intelligence across all seniority levels.
  • Communication skills: Clarity in both written and oral delivery of insights.
  • Retail expertise: Deep merchandise planning/buying, supply chain, or IT know-how.
  • System acumen: Understanding of key retail/ERP systems (e.g. SAP, retail-specific platforms).
  • Cultural intelligence: Proven ability to motivate diverse, multi-cultural teams.
  • Technical fluency:
    • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint for storytelling.
    • Foundation in retail software implementations.
