Business Controller – Finance (Thame, Oxfordshire)

Location: Thame, Oxfordshire (GB-OXF) Country: United Kingdom (GB) Requisition Number: 46377

At BUNGE, we are committed to creating sustainable value across the global food, feed, and fuel supply chain. We are seeking a highly motivated Business Controller to join our Finance team in Thame and play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely financial reporting for our UK entities.

This is an on-site role based at our Thame office.


About the Role

As a Business Controller, you will:

  • Coordinate US GAAP reporting to ensure compliant, consistent, and timely financial statements for UK entities.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting routines, including Balance Sheet, P&L, and variance analysis.
  • Partner closely with upstream teams to drive quality, alignment, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a control-oriented environment, balancing compliance requirements with strategic and operational objectives.
  • Analyze results to identify opportunities and risks, supporting business performance improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Monthly Reporting

  • Own UK country financial statements, including management information (MI) and asset reporting.
  • Conduct variance analysis and ensure accuracy of reported figures.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close process.
  • Maintain process alignment across the region and deliver timely, accurate financial information.

US GAAP Compliance

  • Ensure Country UK financial statements comply with US GAAP.
  • Validate the accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting packages, including SEC and SFAS schedules.
  • Escalate technical US GAAP matters (e.g., revenue recognition, leases, tolling arrangements, significant balance sheet items).

Mark-to-Market (MTM) Ownership

  • Oversee MTM activities, including market pricing, valuation, and journal postings.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of pricing components and challenge pricing sources.
  • Conduct month-end MTM reviews to ensure fair value accuracy.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies or fluctuations in MTM values.
  • Follow up on overdue contracts, anomalies, and MTM reconciliations.

Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor accounting/reporting KPIs and drive improvements in OneStream, SAP, and manual processes.
  • Maintain open communication with local finance and business teams.
  • Collaborate on best practices, operational challenges, and efficiencies.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements.

Upstream Processes & Process Ownership

  • Own end-to-end reporting processes, aligning with trade, execution, and finance teams.
  • Drive optimisation initiatives, including automation and process simplification.
  • Implement enhancements to improve efficiency, controls, and reporting accuracy.

SOX and Internal Controls

  • Ensure design and effectiveness of internal controls for financial reporting.
  • Perform SOX controls (as outlined in the KC matrix).
  • Participate in reconciliations, process walkthroughs, and audit testing.

Local GAAP & Additional Responsibilities

  • Support preparation of statutory accounts and other financial/business reports.
  • Prepare local GAAP and IFRS adjustments.
  • Assist during internal and external audits.
  • Participate in IT and business improvement projects, including system implementations/enhancements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Strong technical expertise in controlling, US GAAP, and SEC reporting (experience in a U.S. multinational organisation preferred).
  • Cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience building stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to engage all levels of the business.
  • Proven ability to prioritise multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and independent with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), or working towards equivalent professional qualification.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline (desirable).
  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office, with OneStream or HFM experience beneficial.
  • Good working knowledge of US GAAP, UK GAAP/IFRS, SOX, and SEC reporting.
