Business Controller – Digital Printing Solutions
Cambridge, UK
To strengthen the Business Finance team of Agfa’s Digital Printing Solutions (DPS) Business Unit at our Cambridge site.
About Agfa Digital Printing Solutions (DPS)
AGFA Digital Printing Solutions (DPS) is a division of the Agfa-Gevaert Group, headquartered in Mortsel, Belgium, and listed on Euronext Brussels (AGFB).
Building on Agfa’s expertise in chemistry and deep industry knowledge, DPS leads the inkjet printing market, providing sign & display and packaging companies with:
- Wide-format inkjet printers
- High-performance inks
- Dedicated workflow software
- Solutions for laminate, leather, and decorative applications
- Specialised inkjet inks for industrial applications
Underpinned by a strong IP portfolio and expert talent, we have grown significantly in recent years and now seek a Business Controller to drive our future growth.
The Role
As the Business Controller at our Cambridge site, you will hold a broad controlling role, split across three key responsibilities:

Business Partner for Global DPS Innovation Team (65%) Financial modelling, investment appraisals, and business case development for new initiatives

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Activities (25%) Local financial forecasting and alignment with business goals

Plant Controlling Activities (10%) Local cost and production analysis to optimise margins
You will combine advanced financial analytics to guide decision-making at all organizational levels and strengthen business growth, profit, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Business Partnering & Financial Strategy
- Partner with the Global Head of Innovation and R&D managers to develop compelling business cases and investment appraisals for new projects
- Provide risk assessments, ROI projection, and financial feasibility studies for ongoing and potential initiatives
- Support strategy discussions while evaluating strategic decisions’ financial impact
R&D & Project Financial Tracking
- Monitor R&D project financials, analysing monthly spend variances for inks, equipment, and software against budgets
- Develop and track KPIs to evaluate R&D portfolio value, efficiency, and effectiveness
Financial Planning & Reporting
- Monthly financial statements and variance analysis (actual vs forecasted)
- Budget preparation, 5-year strategic planning, and quarterly forecasting alignment with BU and plant goals
- Conduct ad hoc analyses on key business topics, supporting long-term strategy
Cost & Operational Analysis
- Maintain and review standard costing systems
- Analyse production costs, material usage, and manufacturing variances for cost optimisation
- Provide financial insights to aid capital project evaluations and cost reduction initiatives
Compliance & Administrative Support
- Reconcile inventory records and manage fixed assets
- Support month-end closing, ensuring balances and reporting accuracy
About You
We’re looking for a strategic finance professional who thrives in a high-motivation environment. Here’s what we need:

- Degree: Master’s level qualification in Finance or a related field
- Experience: 5-7 years in a business finance role, with plant controller experience (or equivalent expertise) and familiarity with cost accounting
- Skills:
- Advanced financial analysis, strategic planning, and cross-functional stakeholder management
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills with tactical and strategic thinking
- Passion for future-oriented business decision-making and agile problem-solving
- Attributes:
- Proactive, results-driven, and service-oriented
- High-pressure resilience; ability to manage tight deadlines in an international business
- Excellent written and oral communication – a natural bridge between finance and operations
- Open and collaborative mindset, willing to push boundaries and embrace change
Essential language: Fluent in English.
