Principal Business Analyst – Data Platforms

Location: London (Hybrid)
Engagement: Contract (Inside IR35) / Fixed-Term Employment
Start: ASAP

UST is seeking a Principal Business Analyst to join a strategic Data Technology Platforms Team supporting enterprise-wide data initiatives across Asset Management, Operations, Client Services, Wealth Management, Analytics, and AI solutions.

This role is ideal for a senior Business Analyst with a strong data background who can bridge business and technology teams, drive requirements, and deliver high-quality data solutions within a complex, regulated environment. Investment or Asset Management experience is highly desirable, particularly across investment data domains.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead requirements discovery, stakeholder workshops, and business analysis activities across multiple data initiatives.
  • Translate business needs into clear user stories, process flows, data definitions, source-to-target mappings, and acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with architects, data engineers, QA, and delivery teams to design and deliver scalable data solutions.
  • Use SQL to analyse, validate, reconcile, and investigate complex datasets.
  • Support end-to-end delivery including testing, UAT, defect management, release readiness, and production deployment.
  • Manage priorities, risks, dependencies, and delivery outcomes across concurrent projects.

What We're Looking For:

Essential Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst delivering data and technology change within a regulated environment.
  • Strong SQL skills with hands-on experience in data analysis, validation, reconciliation, and impact assessment.
  • Experience working with SQL Server, Snowflake, or similar cloud data platforms.
  • Strong requirements elicitation, documentation, stakeholder management, and SDLC delivery experience.
  • Ability to challenge assumptions, influence stakeholders, and drive decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Highly Desirable Domain Expertise:

  • Experience within Investment Management, Asset Management, Wealth Management, or Financial Services, including exposure to:
    • Holdings & Positions
    • Transactions & Pricing
    • Reference Data
    • Corporate Actions & Benchmarks
    • Performance & Risk Data
    • ESG Data

Additional Desirable Skills:

  • Data governance, data quality, lineage, and metadata management.
  • Modern data platforms, cloud data warehousing, and data architecture concepts.
  • Agile or hybrid delivery methodologies.
