Role Type: Temporary – 12 Months Location: Cambridge – x2 Days on-site per week

This Programme will redefine our operating model—connecting every link from bench to patient. Thousands of employees will rely on this digital platform, making it a critical infrastructure for core business processes. Axial is a once-in-a-generation initiative that will shape AstraZeneca globally.
After a rigorous global design and build phase, the organisation is now at the deployment stage. We are seeking a Business Data & Process Lead to partner with the Axial programme, working alongside GPPM (Global Programme & Portfolio Management), Finance, and Data Platform teams.
The Role - Key Responsibilities
Programme Support
- Support the Global R&D deployment workstream, ensuring alignment with project timelines and objectives.

Strategic Roadmap Development
- Develop and maintain a clear, actionable roadmap balancing immediate priorites and long-term goals.
Process & Data Analysis
- Gain a deep understanding of the Axial technology landscape and assess existing processes to identify gaps and opportunities using your practical experience.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and sustain strong relationships with key stakeholders (GPPM, Finance, IT, Axial teams) to capture needs and integrate requirements into the project scope.
- Define end-to-end business processes and data flows.
Technical Translation & Hands-on Leadership
- Translate business needs into structured, technical requirements for implementation teams.
- Lead technical ideation, development, and build, including:
- Ensuring alignment on control records, entity relationships, and persistent identifiers for key data elements.
- Collaborating with data product owners to:
- Define data products, mapping source-to-target relationships.
- Validate required data transformations.
- Contribute to System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring smooth transition into production.
- Facilitate change management activities.
Meeting Attendance & Risk Management
- Lead workshops and meetings to gather feedback, foster collaboration, and devise fit-for-purpose action plans.
- Monitor project progress, proactively identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive exposure and experience in business systems, data platforms (e.g. Snowflake), and systems specific to R&D (e.g. Planisware (PLANIT)).
- SAP proficiency and hands-on experience with ERP transformations and business process optimisation.
- Strong business analysis skills paired with data analytics expertise.
- Ability to lead across global geographies and cultural contexts.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
Desirable Qualifications
- Regulatory expertise, e.g. GxP or SOx.
- Industry experience in bio-tech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences.
- Proven track record in large-scale, complex, multi-year transformation projects.
- Experience in workshop management as a critical method of stakeholder engagement.
