Business Development Associate
Business Development Associate (Part Time, 0.2-0.4 FTE, 12-month contract with potential to extend)
Location: Applications are welcomed from across the UK. As Ecodetect aims to strengthen skills, capacity, and economic activity within Wales, preference may be given to candidates based in Wales or with an established commitment to working within the Welsh marine and environmental sector. Regular travel to North Wales will be required.
Salary and hours: 8–16 hours per week (0.2–0.4 FTE), with flexible, remote working and job share options. £8,000–£16,000 pro-rata (equivalent to £40,000 FTE). Includes pension and generous holiday entitlement (including a flexible bank holiday scheme).

This flexible part-time role requires confidence in sales pipelines, funding applications, and commercial proposal writing. The ideal candidate should quickly grasp our technical solutions and articulate their value across public, private, and funding sector audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
- Develop a detailed understanding of Ecodetect’s products, services, and target markets
- Identify and qualify new business opportunities in public/private sectors
- Build and maintain a sales pipeline of prototype clients and partners
- Convert leads into commercial opportunities through outreach and negotiation
- Ensure smooth contract conversions by aligning proposals with client needs
- Conduct market/competitor research to spot trends and unmet demands
Tender & Proposal Development
- Monitor public/private tenders and allocate resources to priority opportunities
- Lead high-quality bid submissions, liaising with internal/external partners
- Ensure submissions are compliant, persuasive, and tailored to RFPs
- Maintain a library of reusable proposal content to streamline future bids
Grant Funding & Research Opportunities
- Research and apply for regional/national/international grants (e.g., ** marine/environmental/innovation funding**)
- Develop and submit collaborative applications, coordinating stakeholder contributions
- Build lasting relationships with funding bodies, research institutions, and partners
- Ensure applications highlight Ecodetect’s impact, technical advantage, and scalability
Networking & Representation
- Attend conferences, exhibitions, and workshops to showcase our solutions
- Represent the company at client meetings, industry events, and regulatory forums
- Engage with stakeholders (customers, regulators, industry leaders) to expand opportunities
Essential Requirements
- Proven track record in business development, sales, bid management, or grant funding (with racking evidence of success)
- 10+ high-impact years’ experience across any of the following:
- Tender/grant application submissions
- Commercial proposal writing
- Used/organizations (new business, pipeline management)
- Grit-level written communication skills: fridge in persuasive, concise, and client-forward documentation
- Sales acumen: ability to build trusts, qualify leads, and convert opportunities
- Interpersonal efficacy: capability to train with decision-makers and collaboration confirms
- High self-discipline, pragmatic organism overwhelming multiple high-potential to become-to-grow
- UK right-to-work status

Desirable Skills
- Experience in marine, environmental, renewable energy, tech, or research sectors
- Knowledge of funding programmes (e.g., UKRI, Horizon Europe, ISP, Clean Growth Fund)
- Existing network within targeted maritime economy industries
- Passion for cross-sectoral collaboration (government, academia, industry)
