Business Development Director

Senior Business Development Director (Life Sciences Pharma/Industrial Chemicals)

This is an individual contributor role focused on opening new business and driving revenue for our services. As Business Development Director, you will identify scalable products and solutions to sell into our serviced markets, source, build, and expand Uniphar’s relationships with [Life Sciences/Pharma] / [Industrial Chemicals] manufacturers. You will play a critical role in executing key elements of the go-to-market strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Growth & Market Development

  • Develop and execute [Division] business strategy to expand market presence.
  • Identify new service areas, emerging market segments, and high-value client opportunities aligned with company capabilities.
  • Conduct competitive and market analysis to inform commercial strategy and positioning.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to shape service offerings based on market demand and trends.

2. Manufacturer & Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain deep relationships with key decision-makers across [Life Sciences/Pharma] and [Industrial Chemicals] manufacturers.
  • Drive entire sales cycle—lead sourcing to contract closure—with a focus on high-margin propositions.
  • Lead high-value negotiations, prepares proposals, and delivers compelling presentations.
  • Identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities from existing manufacturers and clients.

3. Strategic Partnerships & Alliances

  • Establish strategic partnerships with industry distributors, research institutions, and contract organizations.
  • Represent the company at conferences, trade events, and executive networking functions.

4. Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Work with P&L owners to develop accurate annual business forecasts and budgets.
  • Ensure timely, accurate reporting of pipeline activity, sales metrics, and revenue projections.
  • Advise on compliance for all contracts.

Candidate Profile: Who You Are

  • 5+ years of sales experience in [Life Sciences wholesale/Pharma distribution] or [Industrial Chemicals], preferably with specialist wholesale players.
  • 5+ years pitching complex services, with proven ability to engage C-Suite and escalating business responsibilities.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset—hands-on problem-solving, reputable execution, and a habit of scaling nascent opportunities.
  • Tactical + strategic, combining numbers precision with relatable storytelling.
  • Experience documenting sales activity, CRM adoption, and an introspective, analytical approach to self-growth.
  • Demonstrates executive presence, risk-taking comfort, and the ability to influence decision-making top-down.
  • Thrives in a team-selling culture, hungry for continuous learning.
