Business Development Director – Medical Communications

Pobl commission for a top medical communications agency

Pobl is an independent talent consultancy specialising in medical communications. We’re working with an ambitious and highly-regarded medical communications agency to recruit a Business Development Director. This is a senior commercial role focused on:

  • Winning new clients
  • Expanding existing partnerships
  • Driving sustainable revenue growth

You’ll lead the business development function end-to-end, from strategy and positioning to execution. Responsible for managing the full sales lifecycle, building high-value opportunities, and fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture within the team.

About the Role

This is a permanent position based in the UK (Manchester, Oxfordshire, or hybrid/remote). Ideal for someone with:

  • Proven success in a medical communications agency
  • A track record of winning business

Responsibilities

Business Development Strategy

  • Define and deliver a focused strategy aligned to company goals
  • Identify prioritisation areas and position the agency optimally

Sales Execution

  • Own the full sales lifecycle (prospecting, pitching, contracting)
  • Win new-to-business clients while growing existing accounts

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop the business development team
  • Maintain a high-quality pipeline and provide clear forecasting to leadership

Requirements

Essential

✔ Proven track record of winning new business in a medical communications agency ✔ Strong commercial judgement and ability to manage the full sales cycle ✔ Experience identifying high-value opportunities in current client bases ✔ Experience in leading/managing teams, comfortable with CRM systems ✔ In-depth understanding of the pharma and medical communications landscape
