Business Development Director (BDD) (UK & Ireland)

About the Role

As Business Development Director, you’ll energise our fast-moving team by proactively engaging with Private Sector organisations across the UK & Ireland. You’ll identify key challenges, shape tailored solutions, and lead Version 1’s efforts to secure profitable, high-impact business.

You’ll build lasting relationships with c-suite stakeholders, drive short- and long-term growth, and maximise lead generation—whether through independent prospecting, partnerships, or structured initiatives.

This role demands a self-starter adept at c-suite-level conversations, helping sell solutions, not widgets, whilst ensuring every engagement aligns with customers’ strategic priorities and Version 1’s business objectives.


Key Responsibilities

Driving Business Growth

  • Prospect, develop, and secure high-value (7-8 figure) sales opportunities across our core segments (Manufacturing, Infrastructure, Environment).
  • Lead initiation-to-execution for new logos and new business with existing clients through a mix of self-generated leads, partner introductions, and Commercial Growth signals.
  • Collaborate with Channel Partners (AWS, Microsoft, Oracle, Snowflake, OutSystems, Red Hat etc.) to extend co-marketing, pipeline generation, and joint opportunity development.

Sales Execution & Strategy

  • Develop and present client-facing proposals, RFPs, and presentations, liaising with teams (Partner Managers, Commercial Ops, Delivery & Capability Units).
  • Qualify and de-risk pipeline via robust target validation, differentiation, and win strategies while consistently achieving KPIs.
  • Track and forecast pipeline, financials, and activity while supervising multi-disciplinary teams during contract delivery (e.g., commercials, contract negotiation, project mobilisation).

Relationship & Account Leadership

  • Build trusted, enduring relationships with senior decision-makers (C-level down) in high-growth accounts.
  • Represent Version 1 in client engagements, ensuring seamless transitions from sell to delivery.

Commercial & Strategic Impact

  • Partner with marketing teams to refine and execute GLICE (Grab, Listen, Interpret, Communicate, Execute) strategies and promote technology/service value through:
    • Events & thought leadership
    • Pitches & proposals
    • Client presentations
  • Leverage AI-native skills to enhance efficiency and uncover new sales & service opportunities.

Requirements & Experience

To succeed as a Business Development Director at Version 1, you must:

Core competencies

✔ Proven track record of solution-focused consultative selling spanning tech + business stakeholders (up to CxO level). ✔ Industry mastery in:

  • Manufacturing: Process, batch, discrete
  • Infrastructure: Engineering, construction
  • Environment: Facilities management, infrastructure testing, support, maintenance, real estate, and field services ✔ Digital transformation specialist: Ability to coordinate ** Applications, Data, AI, Cloud, and Managed Services**. ✔ Sales acumen: Demonstrated ability to exceed targets in competitive markets (pitting against large SI’s, global consultancies, and offshore vendors). ✔ Influencing & collaboration: Deliver high-quality, time-bound solutions across matrixed teams—internally and externally.
