Business Development Director — SME, Trading
LOCATION(S): London SALARY: Competitive package HOURS: Full-time WORKING PATTERN: Our flexible work culture requires at least two days per week spent engaging with your network and clients. Monthly meetings at your local hub location will also be expected.
About the Role
Join our Intermediaries team within the Business & Commercial Bank, specialising in term debt lending and attracting new clients. Your mission is to build and nurture relationships with brokers, professionals, and influential clients in your local area, promoting the bank to these key decision-makers.
This role focuses on supporting SME clients (typical turnover: £3M–£25M) and strengthening your position as a vital link between the bank and your community. You’ll develop commercial opportunities, represent the business within professional networks, and champion new tools to enhance client and colleague experiences.
You’ll act as a focal point of change, driving adoption of innovative solutions to meet business and partnership objectives.
Key Responsibilities

Client & Broker Engagement
- Deliver exceptional service to brokers and clients, ensuring their needs shape every interaction.
- Build a strong reputation as trusted advisor within local financial and professional networks.

Credit & Compliance
- Provide funding solutions, authorise credit proposals, and ensure strict adherence to conduct risk and compliance requirements.

What We’re Looking For

SME Experience Commercial banking experience is essential, with a strong focus on credit valuation and term debt products in the SME sector.

Commercial Drive Results-oriented mindset, taking personal accountability for delivering growth and embracing calculated risks.

Client Acquisition & Relationship Management Proven ability to build highly valuable relationships within broker networks, securing consistent Hilton-influencing clients.

Sector-Specific Knowledge Deep understanding of SME credit, risk frameworks and industry trends, with experience leveraging digital tools for superior client experiences.

People-Centric Approach Strong empathy and adaptability, eager to adopt innovative solutions that benefit clients and colleagues.
