Insurance Business Development Executives (BDEs)
We are recruiting three Insurance Business Development Executives (BDEs) to grow Marsh’s SME commercial segment in Witham and Worcester.
Each BDE will focus on direct-to-client acquisition and the fast, repeatable placement of commercial risks with premiums between £5,000 and £20,000. The role prioritises Commercial Combined, Contractors, and general commercial product lines, requiring strong prospecting, quoting, and disciplined pipeline management.
You’ll manage your own schedule and priorities — an independent role with lots of freedom and ownership. This is a hybrid role requiring you to work at least four days a week on the road or in the office. Possibility to work from our Bristol office.
We will count on you to:
- New business: Source, qualify and convert direct client opportunities (£5k–£20k).
- Fast sales: Move deals quickly with disciplined qualification, quoting and follow-up.
- Smooth handover: Provide clear handovers to servicing teams and support retention in month 0–12.
- Market intel: Feed insurer appetite and market insight into product development.
- Relationships: Build direct client and introducer/referral partnerships that drive leads.
- Compliance: Keep accurate records and follow Marsh policies.
What you need to have:
- 12+ months in commercial insurance sales (broker/MGA/insurer) with proven results.
- Great at winning new business and keeping a steady pipeline for high-volume, low-prem accounts.
- Know Commercial Combined, Contractors and similar lines in the £5k–£20k band.
- Comfortable with quoting portals, open-market placements, delegated authority or panel work.
- Brilliant at prospecting, owning your diary and hitting targets.
- Strong negotiator, numerate and commercial-minded.
- Full UK driving license and happy to travel locally.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
