Business Development Executive

Business Development Executive – Waste Management Services

Contract Type: Permanent Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday Salary: £32,500 – £37,500 per annum plus a competitive bonus scheme Closing Date: 6th July 2026


About the Role

A vacancy exists for a Business Development Executive to join Hargreaves Waste Management Services (HWMS).

This key role focuses on enhancing revenue generation, improving customer retention, and securing new business, particularly within Tier 3 accounts. The successful candidate will support the wider commercial team under the supervision of the Business Development Manager, regularly attending client visits to forge relationships and drive deal progression.

Core Purpose: Maximise customer attraction, retention, revenue growth, and profitability through delivering exceptional service across all tiers, while actively identifying and converting new opportunities, especially in Tier 3 markets.


Key Responsibilities

  • New Business Growth:

    • Proactively generate new business opportunities with a focus on Tier 3 sales ("hunting" activity)
  • Customer Account Management:

    • Support the growth and retention of existing multi-tier customer accounts
    • Act as the primary point of contact for nominated clients, ensuring strong relationship management
  • Sales & Lead Management:

    • Provide desktop sales support
    • Accompany the Business Development Manager (BDM) on selected client visits to facilitate deals
    • Handle both inbound and outbound sales activity, including lead generation, follow-ups, and pipelines

  • Commercial & Order Processing:

    • Ensuring accurate, compliant, and commercially sound customer interactions
    • Efficient processing and fulfilment of customer orders within agreed timelines
    • Prompt resolution of enquiries and complaints, escalating where necessary
  • Documentation & Proposals:

    • Preparation of quotes, proposals, presentations, and contracts for internal and external stakeholders
  • Sales Performance & Compliance:

    • Drive new and existing business sales
    • Contribute to compliance & SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) initiatives

Skills, Experience & Attributes

Essentials:

  • Proven track record in commercial, telesales, or desk-based sales environments
  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills
  • High levels of organisation and administrative capability
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation ability
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirables:

  • Experience within the waste management or environmental services industry
  • Knowledge of waste streams, compliance, and service solutions
  • Results-driven with a proactive "hunting" mindset
  • Strong customer focus, able to manage multiple accounts effectively
  • Resilient, self-motivated, and positive
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage time efficently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong team player who collaborates effectively with BDMs and internal teams
  • Problem-solving mindset focused on customer-centric solutions
