About the Role
We are looking for a confident, ambitious Business Development Manager to join our well-established, family-owned Educational Supplies business based in Colchester.
With over 50 years of experience and a client base of 3,000+ schools across the South of England, this position offers an opportunity to own and grow your own sales territory, directly impacting business growth.
This dynamic, dual-focused role combines:
- Proactive telephone-based sales
- Face-to-face client visits
Your responsibilities will include building new relationships, expanding existing accounts, and driving revenue across high-quality exclusive brands.
This role is ideal for an experienced sales account manager with consultative selling skills in a multi-category environment, eager for career progression.

Key Responsibilities
- Own a dedicated sales territory and deliver targeted revenue growth
- Proactively engage with schools and educational institutions to generate new business
- Manage existing accounts to maximise customer value and retention
- Build strong, lasting client relationships via consultative selling
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform strategy
- Provide regular performance reporting on sales growth, margins, and pipeline
About You
Breaking down key qualifications and skills:
Experience
- 3–5 years in sales, account management, or business development
- Proven track record of achieving revenue goals
Skills & Attributes
- Can generate new business and nurture client relationships confidently
- Strong interpersonal communication (telephone and face-to-face)
- Self-motivated, target-driven, and organised
- Commercially savvy with strong negotiation skills
- Requires a full UK driving licence (max. 6 points)
