Business Development Manager – AVRS & Capital Management (Asset Management)

UK Wide

Galliford Try is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join our Asset Management Division to lead on new business development for the AVRS & Capital Maintenance business.

Following organic growth in our markets and a series of acquisitions of specialist businesses over the last few years, our organisation is at the forefront of the sectors in which we operate ensuring we capture a significant market share. We currently operate mainly in the UK Water / Environment sector, with a long-term portfolio trading circa £550 million a year. As part of our 2030 Strategy, we operate in two distinct areas of Asset Creation (Design & Build) and Asset Management (Specialist Services, Products and Technologies).

What you will be doing:

As the Business Development Manager, you will play a key role in the growth strategy and be responsible for promoting and securing new business, using the current and increasing portfolio of products and services we offer. You will work closely with the Asset Management Board to develop a Business Development Plan that sets out a clear path to success, selling both individual business products and services, as well as leveraging synergy opportunities within all our businesses and unlocking the potential for collective solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

The main duties include the responsibility for the following:

Strategic Planning & Market Research / Intelligence

  • Develop and execute the Strategic Business Development Plan focused on high-margin opportunities in current and target markets
  • Seek out and share market intelligence that can benefit the growth of the AVRS & Capital Maintenance business
  • Analyse competitor pricing, market trends, and industry dynamics to position the business for maximum profitability
  • Undertake comprehensive market analysis to identify higher margin opportunities and schemes

Client Acquisition & Relationship Management

  • Identify, build and maintain relationships with aligned clients and stakeholders to secure projects with attractive profit margins
  • Develop strategies to improve client engagement and drive repeat business with a focus on higher margin returns
  • Represent the business at industry events, conferences, and trade shows to identify premium business opportunities.

Proposal Development & Negotiation

  • Lead the development of targeted proposals that emphasize value-driven solutions and profitability
  • Partner with Bid teams across the AVRS & Capital Maintenance business to ensure resource allocation, full adherence to bid processes, excellence of presentation, and on time submissions
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing structures to optimize profitability, while maintaining competitive positioning
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure proposals are aligned with profitability goals and operational capacity

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Constantly look for cross selling opportunities across the whole of the Asset Management portfolio of products and services.
  • Work closely with individual business unit leaders to align business development initiatives with profit-focused corporate objectives, promoting single or collective product and service lines
  • Contribute to innovation and process improvement which seek to enable the business to improve at the fastest rate possible whilst enhancing profits

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track and disseminate market intelligence across the AVRS & Capital Maintenance business
  • Track and report metrics on revenue, profit margins, project pipelines, and client acquisition efforts
  • Provide insights and forecasts on market conditions to support strategic decision-making
  • Monthly reporting of pipeline opportunities and their status / progress

What We're Looking For:

Education

  • Degree level preferred, but not required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of value-based selling
  • Proven in negotiating and securing high value / margin contracts in related sectors (e.g. Energy)
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to build and sustain long-term relationships with high value clients
  • Strong analytical mindset to identify and capitalise on profitable market opportunities

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel domestically
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms (e.g., CX Manager) and developing Strategic Business Development Plans

Success of the role would be measured through the achievement of SMART targets for:

  • Growing the AVRS & Capital Maintenance business through identifying opportunities and securing new work
  • Penetration of new targeted markets
  • Identifying and maintaining a healthy Pipeline of opportunities to meet forecast requirements
  • The effectiveness of Customer engagement
