Job Title
Business Development Manager
Reports to / structure
Sales and Marketing Director
Department / Location
Sales / Remote-based role with occasional visits to Whitstable HQ and customer sites.
Purpose of the role
Create sustainable, profitable sales growth by extending reach into existing elite accounts and winning new accounts across all markets for Martec (Aerospace, Defence, Oil & Gas, Automotive, and Industrial)
Duties and responsibilities
- Deliver sales budget in line with Company targets for the full suite of Martec product ranges and New Product Introductions
- Regularly meet with elite accounts and prospective new customers to identify strategic opportunities that align with growth objectives as well as managing ongoing business satisfactorily
- Conduct customer, company event, and industry event visits globally
- Develop a growth strategy focused both on financial gain and customer satisfaction
- Accountable for forecasting order/sales value and reporting on progress, risks, opportunities, and plans
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise in the assigned market space, e.g., product/service requirements, market trends, technology/application developments
- Create, monitor, and maintain a substantive sales opportunity pipeline
- Provide a primary interface between customers and other functions within the organisation to deliver service to new and developing customers
- Liaise with Internal Sales personnel to ensure that responses to customer enquiries are completed on a timely basis, to achieve service and quality standards
- Inform customers of new product/technologies and services, and ensure that customers receive training on these products where required
- Submit reports detailing sales statistics such as order levels, margin levels, call rates, leads, etc.
- Maintain up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of the organisation's and competitors' products and/or services
- Specific responsibility for developing new business from new accounts
- Manage sales performance through key performance indicators
- Contribute to key Company processes and systems such as S&OP, CRM, and Strategy/Budget preparation
- Carries out such other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
- Proven experience in business development, sales, or a similar role
- Ability to build, maintain, and gain value from customer relationships
- Ability to guide growth planning, strategies, and initiatives
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, and related analysis tools
- Experience with sales performance analysis tools
- Developed presentation skills
- Ability to manage and deliver on complex, high value contracts and negotiations
- Ability to manage a diverse sales pipeline and communicate updates effectively to the business

Desirable:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, engineering, or related field
- A background in dealing within a technical sales environment and customers

- Able to work on their own initiative and as part of a wider team
- Commercially astute and highly customer-focused
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Travel
Role requires UK and International travel with at least one overseas trip per month

- Ensure that all employees, contractors, and visitors comply with Martec’s Health & Safety Policy and use Health and Safety equipment provided
Business responsibilities
- Required to follow the Work Instructions as identified in the Quality Systems Manual
