Southgate Lighting is a leading UK manufacturer of innovative lighting solutions, specialising in design-and-build, value engineering, and bespoke luminaires. Our experienced lighting specialists support clients throughout every stage of a project, from concept to completion, providing on-site assistance for surveys, installation, and commissioning to ensure every project is delivered to the highest standards.
Working closely with contractors, consultants, architects, engineers, and end users, Southgate Lighting delivers tailored lighting solutions that combine quality, performance, and value.
As part of our continued growth, we are looking to appoint an ambitious Business Development Manager to develop and strengthen our presence throughout Ireland, building long-term relationships and increasing our specification and project pipeline.
Role Description
The Business Development Manager β Ireland will be responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities while developing and managing existing customer relationships across both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
This is a field-based role involving regular travel throughout Ireland, representing Southgate Lighting and promoting our comprehensive range of lighting solutions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for generating new business, developing existing accounts, conducting customer meetings and site visits, preparing quotations and proposals, and working closely with our internal design and technical teams to deliver bespoke lighting solutions.
A key part of the role will involve building strong relationships with consulting engineers, M&E consultants, architects, electrical contractors, wholesalers, and end users. The successful candidate will be confident discussing technical lighting solutions and delivering professional CPD (Continuing Professional Development) presentations to consulting engineers and specification teams, helping secure product specifications at the early stages of projects.

The Business Development Manager will also maintain accurate CRM records, monitor sales performance, provide market intelligence, and identify opportunities to further expand Southgate Lighting's presence throughout Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities throughout Ireland.
- Build and maintain strong long-term relationships with contractors, consultants, engineers, wholesalers, and end users.
- Generate and manage a healthy sales pipeline from enquiry through to project completion.
- Conduct regular customer meetings, presentations, and site visits.
- Deliver engaging CPD presentations to consulting engineers, M&E consultants, and specification teams.
- Promote Southgate Lighting's technical expertise and product range to secure project specifications.
- Identify specification opportunities at the design stage and work closely with consultants to maximise project success.
- Prepare quotations, proposals, and tender submissions.
- Collaborate with internal design, technical, and project teams to deliver bespoke lighting solutions.
- Provide technical product advice and project support throughout the sales process.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts, and pipeline reports.
- Monitor competitor activity, market trends, and customer requirements.
- Represent Southgate Lighting professionally at client meetings, networking events, and industry exhibitions.
- Achieve agreed sales targets while contributing to the continued growth of the business across Ireland.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in Business Development, Technical Sales, or Account Management.
- Strong lead generation, pipeline management, negotiation, and closing skills.
- Experience building relationships with consulting engineers, contractors, wholesalers, and specification clients.
- Confidence delivering professional presentations and CPD seminars.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to understand technical products and communicate solutions effectively.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Experience using CRM software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Full clean driving licence with willingness to travel extensively throughout Ireland.

Desirable
- Previous experience within the lighting industry.
- Knowledge of commercial lighting design and lighting controls.
- Experience selling into the construction, M&E, electrical wholesale, or manufacturing sectors.
- Existing relationships with consulting engineers and contractors across Ireland.
- Experience securing product specifications on commercial construction projects.
- Relevant qualification in Business, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, or a related discipline.
