Business Development Manager
Department: Sales / Commercial
Reports To: Operations Manager
Purpose of the Role
The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities to support the company's growth objectives. The role focuses on:
- Building strong customer relationships
- Expanding the customer base
- Increasing revenue
- Promoting the company’s products and services within target markets
Key Responsibilities
Business & Market Engagement

Identify and develop new business opportunities through:
- Market research
- Networking
- Referrals
- Lead generation activities

Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities
Customer Relationships & Sales Process
- Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing customers
- Generate, qualify, and convert sales leads into profitable business
- Develop and implement business development strategies to achieve growth targets
- Conduct customer meetings, presentations, and product demonstrations
Commercial & Negotiation
- Prepare and deliver quotations, proposals, and commercial agreements
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms of business within company guidelines
- Ensure excellent customer service throughout the sales process

Internal Coordination
- Work closely with internal departments to understand and fulfil customer requirements
- Collaborate with Marketing on promotional initiatives
- Maintain accurate sales pipeline management, including CRM records
Reporting & Performance
- Prepare sales forecasts, reports, and business activity updates for management
- Attend industry exhibitions, trade shows, and networking events as required
- Represent the company professionally and promote its values and objectives
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in business development, sales, or account management
- Demonstrated success in generating new business and achieving sales targets
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and proactively
- Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to analyse market information and identify opportunities

Qualifications
- Relevant sales or business development qualifications are advantageous
- Proven industry experience may be accepted in place of formal qualifications

- New business revenue generated
- Achievement of sales and growth targets
- Number and value of new customer accounts secured
- Conversion rate of leads into customers
- Customer retention and account growth
- Accuracy and maintenance of CRM records
- Sales pipeline value and forecasting accuracy

The role involves regular interaction with:
- Existing and prospective customers

- Operations and Logistics Teams

- Suppliers and Industry Partners
General
The post holder may be required to undertake additional duties commensurate with the role as reasonably requested by management.
