Business Development Manager
Business Development Manager – Lighting Controls
Our client, a leading and innovative organisation in the lighting sector, is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to accelerate their UK growth strategy by driving sales, fostering key relationships, and securing new specification opportunities in lighting control solutions.
This is an ideal position for professionals with a strong technical grounding in lighting controls—particularly DALI—and a reputation for delivering measurable business growth in electrical or lighting sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Relationship Development: Build and maintain partnerships with consultants, contractors, lighting manufacturers, and other stakeholders
- Opportunity Generation: Identify and convert new business leads while maximising revenues from existing client accounts
- Technical Solution Advocacy: Collaborate proactively with consultants to ensure lighting control solutions are specified early in construction projects
- Proposal & Quotation: Produce competitive tariffs, quotations, and accurate technical documentation for lighting control projects
- Pipeline Management: Maintain a robust sales pipeline and consistently exceed agreed sales targets
- CRM & Documentation: Update CRM systems with all customer interactions, opportunities, and project progress
- Proposal Delivery: Present professional product demonstrations and technical presentations to stakeholders
- Project Oversight: Liaise with internal project teams to ensure seamless handover and high service standards

Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience in selling or advising on lighting control systems
- Comprehensive knowledge of DALI lighting controls, including capabilities and limitations
- Strong track record in business development, technical sales, or similar roles within electrical/lighting sectors
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously with a customer-centric mindset
- Material experience with CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Full UK driving licence with a willingness to undertake business travel nationwide

Advantageous
- Professional qualification or engineering/technical background in electronics, electrical, or lighting
- Proven record of exceeding sales targets in a competitive B2B environment
- Experience in other architectural specifier or contracting sectors
- Experience managing regulatory compliance handling (e.g., LPD, energy efficiency standards)
