Business Development Manager - Education

Up to £50,000 basic salary + uncapped commission (realistic first-year earnings £80,000+)
Home-based | UK travel | September 2026 start

We're looking for someone who enjoys building something. Not a corporate salesperson looking for endless internal meetings and layers of management. Someone who enjoys opening doors, building relationships and taking ownership of a market.

About us

Social Media Check provides automated, consent-led online conduct checks that help organisations make safer recruitment decisions while protecting applicants' privacy. After establishing ourselves as the market leader within the television industry, we've quietly built a significant presence within education. Today, our platform is used by around 1,000 schools across more than 50 multi-academy trusts, with customer retention approaching 99%. The opportunity now is to build on that success. We're investing in a dedicated education sales function to accelerate growth across schools and trusts, and we're looking for someone who wants to help shape that journey.

The role

Your focus will be winning new business across the education sector, with multi-academy trusts as your primary market. You'll also have the freedom to develop opportunities with larger maintained and independent schools where they represent a route into wider trust relationships or significant standalone business. You'll inherit marketing-generated enquiries, but you'll also be expected to create your own opportunities and take ownership of your pipeline. This is a role for someone who enjoys prospecting just as much as closing.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

A different type of sales role

Our commercial model is designed to make it easy for schools to get started. Customers can begin with a relatively small initial purchase before expanding usage as recruitment activity grows. That means success isn't simply about winning new customers. It's about developing relationships, understanding recruitment cycles and spotting opportunities to grow accounts during their first year. You'll have clear visibility of customer usage, making it straightforward to identify when schools or trusts are likely to need additional capacity. Good organisation, disciplined follow-up and commercial curiosity will be just as important as your ability to win new business.

What you'll be doing

  • Winning new business across multi-academy trusts and schools.
  • Building relationships with CEOs, COOs, HR Directors, safeguarding leaders and school leadership teams.
  • Creating and managing your own sales pipeline.
  • Following up marketing-generated enquiries.
  • Delivering consultative sales conversations from first meeting through to contract.
  • Developing customer accounts throughout their first year.
  • Using school-level relationships to unlock wider trust opportunities.
  • Helping shape the future commercial approach for the education sector.

About you

You'll already have a track record in business development and enjoy taking responsibility for your own results. You may have sold into education, HR, recruitment, compliance or another consultative B2B market. Experience of selling to the education sector is helpful, but it's not essential. We're more interested in someone who can ask good questions, understand customer challenges and build trusted relationships with senior decision makers. You'll be:

  • Self-motivated.
  • Organised.
  • Commercially curious.
  • Comfortable prospecting.
  • Confident speaking to senior stakeholders.
  • Driven by building long-term customer relationships rather than simply chasing one-off transactions.

What we're offering

  • Up to £50,000 basic salary.
  • Uncapped commission with accelerators for high performance.
  • Realistic first-year earnings of £80,000+.
  • Commission on first-year customer growth, not just the initial sale.
  • Home-based role with flexibility.
  • National territory.
  • The opportunity to help build one of the UK's fastest-growing education technology businesses.

Why now?

The product works. Customers stay. The market is growing. Now we need the right person to help us scale. If you enjoy building markets, creating opportunities and taking ownership of your success, we'd like to hear from you.

Expected start date: September 2026.
