Business Development Manager, Technical Sales Manager, Area Sales Manager – Industrial Consumables, Components

Are you a technically minded sales professional with experience selling into manufacturing environments?

As a leading global manufacturer of industrial consumables and surface finishing solutions, we are hiring a Business Development Manager to drive growth across an established homebased territory covering the South.

About the Role

  • Basic Salary: £45,000 – £55,000
  • Location: Home-based, covering a territory from London, through the South Midlands, to South Wales
  • Communtable Locations:
    • Bristol, Bath, Cheddar, Swindon, Reading, Oxford, Luton, Northampton, Worcester, Banbury, Milton Keynes
    • Gloucester, Cheltenham, Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Coventry, and surrounding areas

Key Responsibilities

Your core duty will be developing sales across diverse customers, including:

  • OEM manufacturers
  • Major industrial end users
  • Distributor partners

  • Balanced Focus: Split time 50/50 between direct OEM customers and distribution partners.
  • Market Development: Drive a mix of new business and account management opportunities.
  • Account Recovery: Re-engage dormant and lapsed accounts, identifying growth potential.
  • Full Sales Cycle Management: From prospecting to implementation.
  • Revenue Targets: Achieve £1 million+ annual sales revenue with a focus on new business growth.
  • Technical Account Management: Conduct site visits to manufacturing facilities, understanding applications and providing technical recommendations.
  • Distributor Collaboration: Work closely with distributors to support growth in key industrial sectors.

Person Specification

Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience in technical field sales for industrial consumables, components, abrasives, tooling, or surface-finishing products.
  • Proven track record selling to manufacturing environments, ideally within automotive, aerospace, engineering, fabrication, or general industrial sectors.
  • Direct experience working with OEM customers.
  • Understanding of distributor-led sales channels and strong partner relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to identify technical challenges and offer commercially viable solutions.
  • Experience managing a remote territory autonomously.
