Business Development Manager

Commercially Driven Business Development Manager – Promar (EU Food & Agriculture)

About the Role

Our Promar division is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive growth across European markets in food, agriculture, and sustainability. This Italy-facing role will involve leading a small team of consultants, developing new business opportunities, and strengthening client relationships to support Promar Integrated Solutions’ commercial strategy.

As the key commercial partner, you will identify revenue streams, develop client-centric solutions, and ensure high-value project delivery—all while representing Promar at industry events and fostering strategic partnerships.

Location: Primarily UK-based, with a small team in Germany. Additional travel to Germany and Europe will be required.


Key Responsibilities

Delivering New Business Growth

  • Lead the pursuit of new consultancy opportunities across Europe, targeting data-driven solutions in agriculture, sustainability, and supply chain optimisation.
  • Design and execute bid strategies, leveraging your network and market insights to win high-value contracts.
  • Develop propositions aligned with Promar’s core areas, including:
    • Farm consultancy
    • Sustainability strategy
    • Agri-economics (farming profit advisory & Food-to-Fork insights)
    • Farm Business Survey (FBS) data tool applications

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Nurture deep partnerships with farmer cooperatives, food producers, retailers, and NGOs to drive specialised consultancy solutions.
  • Present at industry forums, conferences, and client meetings to showcase Promar’s expertise, particularly in:
    • UK farming financial performance (via the Farm Business Survey)
    • EU sustainability trends (e.g., CAP, decarbonisation, traceability)
    • Primefact’s asset finance and technology-adoption advisory services

Project and Portfolio Management

  • Collaborate with delivery teams to monitor live consultancy projects, ensuring profitability, on-time delivery, and client satisfaction.
  • Optimise project pipelines for Scalable Agriculture Unit (SAU) and Primefact Australia business segments.

Commercial Strategy and Development

  • Support the development and refinement of Promar’s European client offering in response to market needs.
  • Capitalise on emerging trends (e.g., EU surpluses driving food systems innovation) to propose market-led solutions.

Requirements

Essential Experience & Knowledge

  • Demostable track record in business development, account management, or consultancy within:
    • Farming/agribusiness
    • Sustainability or resilient supply chains
    • Food sector strategy (policy, retail, cooperatives).
  • Proven ability to build and retain client relationships, with experience in either strategic consultancy or tactical sales.
  • Familiarity with EU food and agriculture policy frameworks (e.g., CAP, Net Zero agri goals).
  • Commercial mindset with a focus on forecasting, margin management, and win friendly delivery approaches.
  • Strong communication skills with both senior decision-makers and technical teams.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of relevant industry experience.

Desirable Skills adding value

  • French/Italian/Dutch fluency would be highly advantageous, given trans-national client base.
  • Supply chain logistics or production economics background.
  • Understanding of financial tools (DCF, project economics) or analytics (decision trees, optimisation models).

What You’ll Bring as a Candidate

Education

  • Degree in Agriculture/Sustainable Food Systems, Economics, Business/Finance or equivalent professional experience.

Training & competence

  • All Promar certifications are IGD/ISO compliant, and the business adheres to a robust quality framework. For this role, InterSpeak qualifies.
