At Guardian, our mission is simple: to ensure every family has protection they truly believe in.

We’re challenging the market with a fresh approach and a brand promise — Life. Made Better.

We are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join our Sales team.

What does a Business Development Manager do?

You will be required to attend adviser meetings virtually, driving new and incremental premium income to Guardian from your panel of medium and large intermediaries. You’ll be expected to build relationships with paraplanners, administrators and advisers and act as the face of Guardian. You’ll conduct your work via telephone calls and virtual (teams) meetings. There may be requirements to attend occasional face to face events to support our Strategic Partners, however your main duties will be done from the Reading office or home (depending on location).

You will be responsible for delivering the Guardian brand and values in the best light.

Your responsibilities include but will not be limited to:

  • Deliver a combination of high-volume outbound calls and virtual business development activity as required by your panel of assigned accounts.
  • Generate new business to meet agreed sales targets from your assigned accounts.
  • Work with underwriting, servicing, and claims teams to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
  • Represent Guardian at protection seminars/workshops both face to face and virtually.
  • Work with the Distribution & Marketing Management Team to ensure the Guardian proposition is approved to do business with Advisers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
