Business Development Manager - Portal Steel Frame Buildings

Wernick Group and Wernick Refurbished Buildings Background

Wernick Refurbished Buildings (WRB) specialises in the design and construction of permanent refurbished modular buildings. We combine sustainability, engineering expertise, and turnkey delivery to create outstanding modular solutions with delivery at scale.

Wernick Group History

The Wernick Group of companies has a proud history stretching back to 1934. Starting as a humble maker of poultry crates, we have grown to become Britain’s largest independent manufacturer and hirer of portable and modular accommodation.

With 41 operating centres across 37 locations throughout the UK, the Wernick Group works extensively across both the public and private sectors. Since our establishment in 1934, we have remained a family-owned and run business.

Recent Growth

The last decade has seen vigorous expansion through a combination of shrewd acquisitions and organic growth across the Group. At WRB we have experienced tremendous growth over the past four years which has been the business triple in size.

About The Role

Wernick Refurbished Buildings (WRB) is leading the Wernick Group's expansion into the rapidly growing portal steel frame market. To support this exciting growth strategy, we are launching a new brand, Wernick Portal Frames, and are looking for an ambitious, driven, and enthusiastic Business Development Manager to help establish and grow our presence in this sector.

This is a unique opportunity to join at the ground floor of a new business venture backed by the strength, reputation, and resources of the Wernick Group. You will play a key role in generating sales opportunities, developing relationships with key customers, contractors, and industry stakeholders, and driving revenue growth across the UK.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, creating and managing a pipeline of enquiries, promoting the Wernick Portal Frames offering, and converting prospects into customers. Working closely with internal teams, you will help shape our go-to-market strategy and become a key ambassador for the brand.

We are looking for a proactive self-starter with a passion for winning new business, building long-term customer relationships, and delivering results. Previous experience in construction, steel frame buildings, industrial buildings, or a related sector is required, but equally important is a strong commercial mindset, excellent communication skills, and the drive to succeed in a fast-growing business.

If you are excited by the prospect of helping build a new brand, influencing its future success, and being part of an entrepreneurial growth journey within one of the UK's most respected construction and manufacturing groups, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop and secure new business opportunities for Wernick Portal Frames across England, Scotland and Wales.
  • Generate a consistent pipeline of enquiries through proactive prospecting, networking and relationship building.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with developers, contractors, end-users, architects, consultants and key decision-makers.
  • Promote the Wernick Portal Frames offering and position the business as a trusted partner within the steel frame building sector.
  • Manage the sales process from initial enquiry through to contract award and handover.
  • Work closely with estimating, design and operational teams to develop customer solutions and winning proposals.
  • Conduct customer meetings, site visits, presentations and project reviews throughout the UK.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities within the portal frame and industrial building sectors.
  • Represent Wernick Portal Frames at industry events, exhibitions and networking opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activity, customer engagement and pipeline opportunities using our Salesforce CRM system.
  • Deliver sales targets and contribute to the strategic growth plans of the new business.
  • Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to support product development and business planning.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
