ROLE: Business Development Manager – Lighting

HOURS: 40 hours per week

LOCATION: London and Home Counties

We're looking for a Business Development Manager – Lighting who will be part of our Energy and Decarbonisation Project Team working with our new and existing customer base.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join our Lighting Projects team. The Business Development Manager will work alongside our operational and specialist sales functions to develop lighting energy reduction related opportunities for existing clients and create new market opportunities. Your role will be critical in obtaining our business growth objectives.

Role

This is an external client-facing role, liaising with strategic stakeholders targeting opportunities with new customers not currently engaged with Mitie, including:

  • C-suite – Executive Directors, Directors, Heads of Function including Engineering, Procurement, Property, Sustainability, Energy Management and Programme Management, as well as key suppliers and technology developers.

Role Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a visible pipeline to achieve agreed financial targets and manage your sales pipeline from initial contact through to project completion.
  • Maximise opportunities for new business and lead negotiations with the client to win profitable contracts while identifying and pursuing new lighting/energy saving opportunities within the commercial, industrial, and PFI sectors including Education, Healthcare, Public Sector, Logistics, Leisure and Hospitality.
  • Provide solutions that help our clients become more energy efficient and embark on a meaningful journey to net zero, including organising and attending site surveys and developing detailed quotes and proposals.
  • Oversee the full bid process from tender to final submission – PQQs and ITTs – ensuring all submissions are accurate and demonstrate a thorough understanding of lighting energy methodologies and project delivery timelines, including leading bid/no bid decisions, submissions, presentations and negotiations.
  • Use the Salesforce CRM platform to manage activities from opportunity creation to close, ensuring the highest levels of conduct are always achieved across delivery of savings, presentations, behaviours, report writing, milestones and plans, while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the lighting industry and contributing new concepts, ideas and strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • Experienced professional with a minimum of 5 years within the lighting or electrical industry, with a full understanding of lighting services and related products.
  • Experience in turnkey installation solutions and lighting control solutions is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence at a high level, alongside strong presentation skills.
  • Solution-focused, self-motivated and strategic thinker with a results-driven approach, strong decision-making ability and a customer-focused mindset.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced working environment, with strong knowledge of contractual terms, energy reduction requirements and industry developments.
