About the Role

The Business Development Manager – Litigation & Trial is an integral member of Latham’s Business Development (BD) team, responsible for partnering with the leadership team to develop and execute strategic plans for the London Office Litigation & Trial Department (including Complex Commercial Litigation, White Collar & Crime, Antitrust & Competition, and International Arbitration). The role will also lead research and analysis to support the identification, retention, and development of clients, as well as the design and implementation of cross-selling programs. The role will also work with individual partners on personal BD planning and activity, and lead on associate BD training. This position will be based in our London office and may be eligible for a flexible working arrangement that combines in-office and hybrid working.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with the Client Engagement Team to devise and successfully deliver initiatives with established and high-growth clients, and help to manage those client relationships.
  • Collaborating with regional and global colleagues to access and supplement their expertise, including Brand & Communications, Events, e-marketing, and the New Business Team, which leads the production of pitch books, presentations, and responses to RFIs and RFPs.
  • Leading the drafting of submissions for legal directories, related industry guides, and awards.
  • Working with the Events team to organize market-leading events, such as panel and speaking opportunities, seminars, receptions, and thought-leadership dinners.
  • Developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge of practice, market and industry, client mix, matter experience, trade groups, and media trends.
  • Collaborating with lawyers, BD, and Brand & Communications teams on speaking opportunities, thought leadership, webinars, and other visibility initiatives.

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Possess extensive knowledge of core marketing principles, including internal communications, public relations, seminar/event planning, branding, market research, competitive intelligence, pitching, and client development.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership and project management skills (i.e., organizing, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making) necessary for effective management.
  • Exhibit well-developed and professional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm.
  • And have:
    • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
    • Preferably business development and marketing experience in a legal or professional services environment.
