About the Role
As a Business Development Manager in CGI’s SDI Business Unit, you will play a pivotal role in driving new business success for OpenSea360 and other maritime-related areas. Reporting to the Head of the Maritime Team, this strategic role requires a proactive, relationship-driven individual with a passion for defence, security, and maritime innovation. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying, qualifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities, both public and private, through strategic client engagement, product introduction, and market penetration initiatives.
This primarily UK-based role (Chippenham Office) involves regular domestic and international travel and will require UK Security Clearance due to the program’s sensitive, security-driven nature.

Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the OpenSea360 leadership team to execute a business development strategy that drives growth in both public and private maritime sectors.
- Identify, qualify, and secure sales opportunities by engaging directly with clients, delivering proofs of concept, technical proposals, sea trials, and thought leadership content.
- Develop marketing and sales strategies that strengthen CGI’s brand positioning and increase band awareness.
- Lead product introduction and market penetration initiatives to expand CGI’s presence in key maritime segments, including new geographies and authorised markets.
- Build and maintain long-term, trusted relationships with key stakeholders, including government, defence, and maritime industry leaders, as well as boat builders.
- Serve as a trusted business advisor, recognising client challenges, and tailoring CGI solutions to deliver measurable business value.
- Lead tailored proposal development and client presentations, ensuring all technical and business requirements are seamlessly integrated.
- Represent CGI at industry events, trade shows, and forums to promote our capabilities, thought leadership, and global visibility.
Essential Criteria
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Navy, maritime operations, or defence industry, including exposure to navigation, tactical operations, or advanced electronic systems.
- Experience developing and executing business development strategies in B2B or B2G environments.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with confidence presenting to senior leadership on multi-million-pound deals.
- Understanding of defence, government, and maritime commercial relationship styles and models.
- Motivated self-starter and team player, capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willing to frequently travel within the UK and abroad, accompanied by a driving licence.
- UK security clearance (required).

Network & Technical Competency
- Broad professional relationships in maritime procurement, boat builders, COTS manufacturers, and ship users.
- Optional: Familiarity with programming platforms like OpenSea360, SV/ECS, Mini/ECDIS, ECDIS & WECDIS frameworks.
Personal Competencies
- Highly entrepreneurial mindset.
- Keen to develop strategic partnerships but resourceful enough to execute multi-client sales independently.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of powerboat operation (Level 2 or equivalent).
- Experience of independent management of administration for a product demonstration or proof of concept.
- Experience of etechnical operations & electronic systems within boats.
