Business Development Manager (m/f/d)
Role Overview We are seeking a technically driven and commercially savvy Technical Development Manager to grow our portfolio in Material Science with specific expertise in polymer additives. This role requires a T-shaped professional—combining broad market awareness across materials science with deep expertise in polymer additive chemistries. You will identify new business opportunities, develop strategic customer relationships, and translate technical capabilities into commercial success across multiple industries. Key Responsibilities: Identify & develop new business opportunities across target markets (e.g. polymers, adhesives, coatings, automotive, construction, electronics) Develop and manage a strong pipeline of projects and opportunities Act as a trusted advisor to customers by understanding formulation challenges and performance requirements Promote and position polymer additives and adhesive solutions effectively Collaborate with suppliers to align product capabilities with market needs Establish cross sales opportunities utilising broad Material Science product knowledge Apply broad knowledge of materials science to identify cross-market opportunities Leverage deep expertise in polymer additives to support technical discussions and close opportunities Translate complex technical concepts into clear commercial value propositions Work closely with internal technical (laboratories), marketing, and supply chain teams Build strong relationships with principals/suppliers and represent their technologies in the market Engage with R&D, procurement, and production stakeholders at customer organizations Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies Provide structured feedback to shape portfolio strategy and supplier selection Qualifications & Experience: Proven experience in business development, technical sales, within materials science distribution or specialty chemicals Demonstrated success in growing revenue and developing new markets Strong knowledge of polymer additives (e.g., stabilizers, plasticizers, modifiers, fillers) Ability to engage in technical discussions with engineers and formulators Understanding of multiple application areas such as coatings, plastics, adhesives Commercial awareness including pricing, value added selling Strong communication and negotiation skills Ability to translate technical detail into business value Self-driven, entrepreneurial mindset with a strategic outlook Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or related field Existing network within relevant industries Experience working with international suppliers or principals Demonstrates a strong T-shaped capability: broad industry awareness with deep technical credibility Builds trust quickly with both commercial and technical stakeholders Proactively identifies and converts opportunities into long-term business Our Offer: Challenging and diverse tasks in a dynamic and secure working environment at a global market leader in chemical distribution and a DAX-listed company Personalized onboarding program for a smooth and fast start Attractive compensation package including vacation and Christmas bonuses Employer-sponsored company pension scheme Preventive healthcare offerings and 30 days of annual leave Company bike leasing through Brenntag – convenient, affordable, and environmentally friendly Brenntag is an equal opportunity employer.
