About the Role
Help us make a difference as a Business Development Manager in this South West-based role, with a focus on driving new business across South Wales and the South West. Regular travel and occasional overnight stays are required. Ideally suited to candidates based in South Wales, Bristol, or the surrounding areas, this primarily depot- and site-based position includes some flexibility for home working.
Supporting both our Hazrem business and Taunton depot, you'll play a pivotal role in expanding our business.
Position Overview
As a Business Development Manager - Tankers, you will drive new business growth across our National Bulk Liquid (Tankers) service within Specialist Services. Your responsibilities include:
- Winning new customers
- Increasing waste liquid volumes
- Identifying opportunities to cross-sell our wider services
This is a commercially focused role requiring industry expertise, a robust network, and experience in securing contracts to foster revenue growth. Working closely with customers and internal stakeholders, you will be instrumental in expanding the tanker business regionally.
Responsibilities
- Explore, win, and manage new business opportunities to secure and grow the bulk liquids product
- Proactively sell profitable new business aligned with strengths, meeting and exceeding quarterly/annual new business targets
- Develop and maintain a detailed new business pipeline, providing a clear forecast of expected volumes and exceeding sales revenue targets
- Report regularly on activity and pipeline to ensure commercial and operational stakeholders have visibility of current and projected activity
- Collaborate with the regional tankers operations team to design and implement a growth strategy aligned with business needs
- Maintain and update business CRM platform data to facilitate targeted marketing campaigns
- Liaise regularly with other commercial teams to share pipelines and enhance best practices
- Work with waste professionals in a diverse and transparent environment built on collaboration rather than bureaucracy

Requirements
- Proven experience in developing, managing, and implementing new business services
- Strength in building and maintaining customer relationships
- In-depth knowledge of the bulk liquids market, including both hazardous and non-hazardous products
- Operational understanding of tanker specifications and equipment
- An existing network of industry contacts and the ability to identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities
- Outstanding communication, presentation, sales, negotiation, and influencing skills
- Ability to manage conflict and derive positive results
- Strong analytical, planning, and organisational abilities, capable of swift decision-making, solution implementation, and meeting tight deadlines and targets
- Independent, resilient, and collaborative approach, capable of working both autonomously and collaboratively
- Self-motivated with original thinking and the ability to challenge conventional practices
