BI Developer

West Midlands (4x Days a Week On-Site) £35,000–£40,000

The Company

A leading name in the industrial distribution and metalworking sector, supplying 10,000+ customers with a catalogue of over 100,000 products across tools, MRO, and PPE, is looking for a BI Developer to join their growing data team; with more than 250 employees, the business has built a strong reputation through its customer-first approach, next-day delivery, and continued investment in technology. As part of an ongoing data transformation programme, they are enhancing their reporting capability using SQL, Power BI, DAX, and Microsoft technologies to provide faster, more reliable business intelligence across the organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity for a BI Developer looking to take ownership of reporting solutions and work closely with stakeholders across multiple business functions.

The Role

As the BI Developer, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports that provide meaningful insight across the business. Working closely with commercial, finance, operations, and supply chain teams, you'll translate business requirements into scalable reporting solutions while ensuring data accuracy and performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI
  • Writing and optimising SQL queries to extract, transform, and validate data
  • Building robust data models and creating DAX measures to support business reporting
  • Working with stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and deliver BI solutions
  • Supporting the ongoing development of the company's reporting environment and data infrastructure
  • Ensuring reporting is accurate, automated, and aligned with business objectives

Your Skills and Experience

  • Strong SQL skills with experience querying large datasets
  • Commercial experience developing reports in Power BI
  • Good knowledge of DAX and data modelling principles
  • Experience gathering requirements and working with business stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience within distribution, manufacturing, retail, or another commercial environment would be advantageous
