Location: Altrincham, UK
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Manager to lead a specialist marine business operating within the emissions monitoring sector.
You’ll take full responsibility for the performance of the business unit, with ownership of strategy, operations and profit & loss. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll oversee a multidisciplinary team across Sales, Product Management, R&D, Project Delivery, After Sales and Procurement, driving both commercial success and technical innovation.
This is an ideal opportunity for a commercially minded leader with a strong technical background who enjoys developing people, improving business performance and shaping the future direction of a growing technology business.
The Role
As Business Manager, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and performance of the business unit, ensuring operational excellence, customer satisfaction and sustainable growth within a technically complex and highly regulated industry.
You’ll lead the execution of the business strategy while working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver commercial success, product innovation and exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
- Take full P&L responsibility, including budgeting, forecasting and financial performance.
- Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams across Sales, Product Management, R&D, Project Delivery, After Sales and Procurement.
- Develop and execute the commercial and business development strategy to achieve revenue and growth targets.
- Drive product development and innovation in line with changing technology and evolving environmental legislation.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders.
- Oversee supply chain performance, procurement and after-sales operations to maximise customer satisfaction.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with relevant quality, environmental and industry standards.
- Coach, mentor and develop the team while supporting succession planning and future growth.
- Collaborate with wider business functions to identify opportunities for operational improvements and business expansion.

About You
We’re looking for an experienced leader who combines strong commercial awareness with a technical background and proven people management experience.
You’ll ideally have
- Previous experience leading a technical or engineering-focused business unit.
- Full P&L ownership and strong commercial acumen.
- A marine engineering or similar technical background.
- Hands on, high energy people management style
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams across engineering, product, sales and operations.
- A track record of delivering organisational change and business transformation.
- Strong understanding of hardware-based technical products within a regulated industry.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- A passion for continuous improvement, innovation and customer satisfaction.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance strategic leadership and operational delivery.
