Barclays Business Relationship Manager *(Senior / Vice President))
About the Role
Join Barclays as a Business Relationship Manager, where you’ll be primarily responsible for nurturing existing clients, driving their growth, and identifying new business opportunities.
Purpose of this role: To establish and nurture profitable partnerships with corporate and individual clients. Act as the bridge between Barclays’ offerings and clients’ evolving needs, ensuring mutual benefit and long-term success.
Key Accountabilities
Client Relationship Management
- Assess financial goals, challenges, and risk tolerance of key clients to inform tailored strategies
- Analyze data from portfolios, cash flow, and investment insights to identify trends, opportunities, and service improvements
- Develop customized solutions aligned with clients’ objectives using Barclays’ full product/service range
Strategic Insights & Recommendations
- Conduct industry trend research and regulatory landscape analysis to drive proactive suggestions
- Justify recommendations, negotiate terms, and effectively communicate value propositions to both client and bank
Advice & Executive Guidance
- Offer financial, investment, risk, and wealth management advice to clients, with updates on market trends
- Provide growth-friendly risk mitigation strategies for complex financial decisions
Risk & Compliance Oversight
- Evaluate financial, operational, and compliance risks in client relationships
- Implement controls to minimize losses while maintaining transparency and regulatory adherence

- Document all interactions, transactions, and agreements for auditability
- Monitor client satisfaction, revenue, and KPIs to continuously refine relationship strategies
Experience & Skills
Core Requirements
To thrive as a Vice President-level Business Relationship Manager, you’ll need demonstrated expertise in:
- Lending and credit management capabilities
- Experience in stakeholder engagement (internal and external)
- Proven track record in client relationship management
- Networking & business development acumen
- Sales & self-starter mindset with exceptional organizational skills
Highly Valued Skills
Some teams prize further competency in:
- Complex contract negotiation and agreement structuring
- Market analysis to anticipate emerging client needs
- Team leadership (where applicable) to align multi-disciplinary support

Leadership & Strategic Impact
Direct contributions fall into three dimensions:
1. Individual Contributor (Expert Specialist)
- Serve as the SME in your domain, guiding enterprise-wide assignments
- Lead multi-year strategies requiring integrated specialisms, including:
- Cross-functional collaboration to address business risks and long-term gaps
- Coaching and training peers alongside intersectoral work

- Define team structure and future needs, balancing short/long-term objectives
