Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Risk & Control Manager to join our Chief Operating Office within the First Line Business Risk function. This is a pivotal role in ensuring that Skipton International operates a robust and effective internal control framework, managing risk in line with organisational appetite.
You will play a key role in shaping and embedding a positive risk culture across the business, influencing stakeholders at all levels and ensuring risk is recognised as an enabler for achieving strategic objectives. Based in Guernsey or Jersey, this role offers the opportunity to drive meaningful change and strengthen governance, controls, and operational resilience.
Key Accountabilities
Risk Management Framework
- Support the implementation and ongoing development of the Risk Management Framework across the organisation.
- Oversee identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring of financial and non-financial risks.
- Provide robust challenge and oversight to Risk and Control Owners to ensure risks remain within appetite.
- Ensure effective remediation plans are in place for risks outside appetite.
- Drive accountability for timely closure of issues and actions, including second- and third-line findings.
- Champion risk awareness and build first-line risk management capability.

Thematic Reviews
- Conduct thematic reviews to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure findings are followed through and embedded into business practices.
Governance
- Own and deliver high-quality reporting and packs for the Business Risk Management Committee (BRMC).
- Prepare papers for the Customer Selection and Exit Management Committee (CSEM), ensuring appropriate quality and detail.
- Contribute to governance forums and oversee annual governance effectiveness reviews.
Third-Party Risk Management
- Oversee the Third-Party Risk Management Framework, ensuring compliance with expectations.
- Challenge relationship owners and ensure issues are addressed effectively.
Business Continuity & Incident Management
- Ensure Business Continuity Plans are maintained, reviewed, and regularly tested.
- Coordinate incident management responses across the organisation.
Leadership & Engagement
- Promote organisational values and behaviours, challenging where standards are not met.
- Engage stakeholders and support a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Customer & Operational Excellence
- Ensure delivery of positive customer outcomes aligned with organisational strategy.
- Maintain high standards of service for customers and stakeholders.
- Uphold data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with IT and security policies.

Requirements
Essential
Skills
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across all levels of the organisation.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving capabilities.
Knowledge
- Risk management principles and frameworks.
- Business continuity and incident management.
- Third-party risk management.
Experience
- Proven experience in a risk role within financial services or a similar regulated environment.
Desirable
Qualifications
- Professional certification in risk or compliance (e.g. IRM, ICA).
Skills
- Project management experience.
Knowledge
- Advanced understanding of business continuity planning.
- In-depth knowledge of third-party risk management frameworks.
Experience
- Broader financial services experience.
- Customer service exposure.
