Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council
Business Support Assistant – Inclusion Team
16 hours per week
Grade 3
£25,185.00 - £25,583.00 pro rata
We are the Inclusion Team - a small and dedicated group of people working to deal with all aspects of suspensions and permanent exclusions from schools across the borough. Our team ethos is primarily child-centred, to ensure that every child is in suitable education.
Due to the current postholder reducing their working hours, we are looking to appoint a Business Support Assistant to work the remainder of the hours over 3 days, Wednesday to Friday. This a hybrid-working position (home and office-based depending on business need).
Amongst your tasks will be:
- To provide first line support for schools, families, Children’s Services, other Council departments and outside agencies relating to exclusions.
- To provide business support to officers within the Inclusion Team, including the arranging of meetings and appointments.
- To maintain a complex data and record system using Microsoft Excel and Word. Also includes the Council’s education database Synergy (experience not necessary as training can be given).
You will be a highly motivated and efficient person with a positive approach towards working within a team.
You will be educated to NVQ level 2 or equivalent and be open to further training and development possibilities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
