We are looking for an organised and proactive Business Support Officer who takes pride in keeping services running smoothly and enjoys supporting teams in a busy, public-facing environment.

Wiltshire Council is one of seven local authorities that have been chosen to participate in the Kinship Allowance Pilot scheme. As part of this initiative, we are seeking to expand our established Kinship Team. This post will be offered on an initial two-year fixed-term contract, with the potential for extension through to September 2029.

Our Kinship and Fostering team are responsible for the supervision, support and training of approved foster carers to ensure care arrangements meet children’s needs and improve outcomes for the children we care for. The team also supports Special Guardianship and Private Fostering arrangements.

On a daily basis, you will provide effective administrative support to the Kinship Allowance Pilot Scheme, managing finance processes, maintaining systems, producing reports, and providing essential phone support. You will work closely with internal teams to resolve issues, improve processes, keep guidance and documentation up to date, and ensure information is accurate, compliant, and accessible.

You will need strong administrative experience, confidence using office IT systems, the ability to analyse and present data clearly, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the confidence to work independently while contributing as part of a wider team in a fast-paced environment.

If you are looking for a varied and rewarding role where your work directly supports essential community services, we would be pleased to hear from you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
