Business Support Team Leader

Business Support Team Leader – Environmental Services

Location East Suffolk Council Lowestoft, NR33 0EQ or Melton, Woodbridge, IP12 1RT

Salary £35,412 – £38,220 per annum (pro rata for part-time staff)

Hours & Type 37 hours per week | Permanent


About the Role

East Suffolk Council delivers essential local services, improving the lives of 250,000 people across East Suffolk.

We are looking for a Business Support Team Leader to join the Environmental Services team. This is a diverse and impactful role covering regulatory and advisory services such as:

  • Food safety
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Public health
  • Noise and nuisance
  • Air quality
  • Animal health
  • Contaminated land
  • Climate change

As Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead, manage, and inspire a team of Environmental Services Support Officers to provide technical and administrative support.
  • Work collaboratively with wider council teams and directly with customers to deliver high-quality, efficient services.
  • Oversee financial and performance management, ensuring the team meets targets and delivers operational improvement.

What You Will Need to Do

You will provide technical and administrative support, ensuring the team achieves optimal performance. Key responsibilities include:

  • Team leadership – Mentoring, supervising, and developing team members to deliver high standards.
  • Process improvement – Identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and service quality.
  • Customer engagement – Representing the team and Council to external stakeholders.
  • Reporting – Managing financial, performance, and compliance data for the team’s accountability.
  • Regulatory compliance – Ensuring operational adherence to environmental health and safety regulations.
