Job Description
Job Title: Business Systems Analyst
Hours: 36 hours per week (Monday – Friday)
Permanent/Fixed Term: Permanent
Location: Cheltenham (office based)
Key Objectives:
Reporting to the Head of Business Systems, the Business Systems Analyst plays a key role in supporting, maintaining and developing SLG's business systems, integrations and reporting solutions. The role is responsible for ensuring that business-critical systems operate effectively, supporting users across the business while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through automation, reporting and process enhancement.
Working closely with internal stakeholders and external technology partners, the Business Systems Analyst contributes to the ongoing development of the company's ERP environment, reporting capability, integrations and in-house applications, helping to ensure systems remain reliable, scalable and aligned to the needs of the business.
Through strong technical expertise, problem solving and continuous improvement, the role supports data-led decision making and helps drive operational efficiency across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the main day-to-day point of contact for business systems issues, providing responsive support and managing helpdesk tickets through to resolution.
- Maintain, support and enhance the company’s ERP system, investigating issues, carrying out system configuration and delivering practical improvements that enhance business performance.
- Use SQL to investigate data and system issues, support reporting requirements and ensure the accuracy and integrity of business data.
- Create, maintain, and improve Power BI reports, datasets and dashboards to provide dependable business insight.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce manual work and introduce automation using tools such as Power Automate, Python, and AI-enabled solutions.
- Develop, support and document internal automations and applications, including the company’s in-house business platform built using Python, Flask and HTML.
- Maintain and troubleshoot integrations between the ERP system and external partners, including 3PL providers, freight forwarders and sourcing companies.
- Support and improve the XML-based DataSwitch middleware, investigating message failures and coordinating resolution with internal teams and external providers.
- Help deliver new integrations and major connection changes, including requirements gathering, data mapping, testing, go-live and ongoing support.
- Act as the primary technical liaison for software vendors and third party providers, managing support cases and ensuring issues are progressed through to resolution.
- Contribute to business systems projects, including system upgrades, implementations, testing, documentation and user acceptance activities.
- Gather user requirements, support testing and contribute to the ongoing rollout and improvement of the in-house business platform and its modules.
- Maintain clear systems, processes and integration documentation so knowledge is retained and support is consistent.
- Provide system guidance and training to users and provide cover for the Head of Business Systems when required.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements:
- A degree, higher apprenticeship, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in IT, Business Systems, Computer Science, Data/Business Analytics or a related discipline is desirable.
- Experience in a Business Systems Analyst, Systems Analyst, ERP Analyst, or similar hands-on role.
- Strong working knowledge of SQL for data analysis and troubleshooting.
- Experience of ERP systems (Syspro experience advantageous);
- Experience developing Power BI reports, datasets and dashboards.
- Experience supporting system integrations and working with XML CSV or similar data formats.
- Experience with integration middleware would be advantageous.
- Experience with Power Automate, Python, or AI-enabled automation would be advantageous.
- Excellent Microsoft 365 skills together with experience supporting end users and third-party software providers.
