My client, based in Edinburgh, is looking for a Business Systems Consultant for an initial 3 months (project scope up to 12 months), Inside IR35, to support and improve key business systems across Finance, Commercial, and Operational functions. This hands-on role focuses on delivering system improvements, configuring solutions, managing releases, supporting end users, and contributing to a wider business transformation programme.

Key Responsibilities

Product & System Delivery

  • Deliver enhancements and system changes across core business applications.
  • Configure systems to meet business requirements and improve user experience.
  • Manage user stories and change requests through the full lifecycle, from requirements through to deployment.
  • Support sprint planning, backlog refinement, and prioritisation activities.
  • Coordinate testing, releases, and deployments with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Work with third-party suppliers to deliver system changes, fixes, and enhancements.

Business Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Act as a key contact for business users.
  • Investigate and resolve system issues, identifying root causes.
  • Recommend and implement process and system improvements.
  • Support system upgrades, releases, and adoption of new functionality.
  • Develop a strong understanding of business processes and system usage.

Transformation & Change

  • Support the delivery of a major business platform transformation programme.
  • Assist with system design, configuration, testing, and implementation activities.

Essential Experience

  • Experience supporting and enhancing business applications within Finance, Commercial, Operational, or ERP environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Proven ability to deliver system changes through configuration rather than software development.
  • Experience managing user stories, change requests, and application enhancements.
  • Strong understanding of system testing, release management, and deployment processes.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into practical system solutions.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with finance, commercial, or ERP platforms.
  • Agile delivery experience, including sprint planning, backlog management, and user story delivery.
  • Experience supporting large-scale business transformation or ERP implementation programmes.

The Successful Candidate Will

  • Enjoy hands-on system configuration and problem-solving.
  • Take ownership of a backlog and drive changes through to completion.
  • Understand how technology can improve business processes.
  • Work effectively with end users, vendors, and delivery partners.
  • Balance operational support activities with strategic change initiatives.
